Well I LOVE it! As a granny gamer and somewhat of a novice to RPG's I was wondering if I would be able to enjoy and play it well. I just got it from Wal-Mart a few days ago and only had the chance to play a little while last night. I had no trouble using the interfaces and controlling the character and kicking ass. I even like the music. So, I am not your ordinary granny. The new grandbaby may get cold feet waiting on her bootees. She lives in Florida, USA so its not too chilly. I will be definitely neglecting my needlework for this game. So, I recommend this game to all the old fogies in the gaming world. I tried playing WOW but the other gamers were so rude and obnoxious that I gave up. So, I got Fable and have played it some. I may go back and play some online RPG's once I get better at playing. Thank you for making a game that even us grannies and novices can play and enjoy. If y'all weren't in Poland I would bake you some cookies. Alas, they probably would not survive the shipping. My cookies are kick ass. Too bad!!!! Peace, the cricket ( c_shadowolf)

I agree. The Witcher is waaaay better than Pitfall or Haunted House! ;)Seriously though, I've been playing games for a quarter of a century, and while there are many games that I enjoy and several that I adore, The Witcher is my favorite. It is one of those rare games, like Myst, that makes me passionate about gaming, not just vaguely interested.

I loved it! The characters, the background, the way that the story evolves due to how you play the game. It really gives you the sensation that you make the story, and that is what an RPG should make you feel like.

The Devs took the aurora game engine and made it much more organic! Too bad you don't have a First-Person view, as this game rivals Tes4 Oblivion! As for the character design, as an artist I'm in awe, but it just goes to show that Europeans are MUCH better at accurately representing the middle ages than Americans, as they've been around much longer than 240 years! (Yes, I AM American ;^))As I'm just starting the game(Just left the witcher stronghold) I have been pretty impressed so far. I'm running this on my laptop, til my AMD Phenome II 6-core system comes via UPS, But it still runs medium-low with my AMD 2.3 GHZ Single-core 2 GBDDR ATI 3100 256 Toshiba laptop! Can't wait to play TWII on my new beast when it comes out!

I agree with the above, I am really impressed at the detail and artistry which is alternately beautiful and creepy depending on where you are. I was just playing in the sewers and wow you can practically smell it. Even the load screens are beautiful.Geralt is also very well done, his replies sometimes make me lol. I am not too fond of the combat but that's the case in most games and I'm muddling along.

One of the greatest RPGS ever made. To be honest i borrowed it from a friend...and had to buy a copy for myself and start off before i finished the borrowed copy!I rarely buy games, but this was worth every penny, the amount of work, story, art and voice, sound, graphics quality truly make it stand out.Even the little things such as day, night cycles, people eating and sleeping and the interaction with the world.....its a sleeper hit game. Its no where near as popular as it should be in the north America region.Kudos guys...im a fan now ...eagerly waiting for the sequel ^_^

I'll have to admit that I've only owned it a little while now and I'm on my first play through. All in all I'll have to say that I love the game as well as for the storyline. Cd Proj has gone beyond what allot of Cprg makers have by making it more of a true to life experince. Leaves and such blowing in the wind, birds flying off when you get to close etc. Will have to admit that I'm hoping that in the sequal; which I've already pre-ordered; that they correct the slow load times as well as for the game occassionally crashing and you losing a save. Learned to save in a few spots. Also inventory could be expanded a bit as well as for the fact of having quest Items automaticly removed once the quest are done. Other than above the game is wonderful. Just waiting on the Sequal now. But have Dragon Age coming in Feb.

I stopped playing this game about 4 months ago, because summer was over and academic responsibilities dictated it. But yesterday I fired it up again, and started from a late Act III save. Got sucked in right away and played about 10 hours straight. It's an absolutely lovely game. This being my first playthrough, I'm thinking about decisions and wondering what to do next. It all has consequences you can't foretell. The story has been covered well already, but it needs to be said again (and again): It is unique and wonderfully done. It often feels like when you watch a truly great movie. You never know what comes next, and are in awe as the characters develop and takes you on a wonderful ride. The only thing that really bugs me (sorry for the pun :D) in addition to the random crashes now and then, is the horrible lack of character builds. Too many people come again and again. This is something they need to work a lot on for TW2. Other than that, it's perfect. Can't wait for what I'm sure is a spectacular and emotional ending :)))(Hopefully with solid cut scenes and not just a fancy version of "Congratulations!" then the credits roll.

Today I purchased my very own copy of the Witcher 1. It was the enhanced version (not sure what the difference is) and i had never heard of the series before so I said why now it was only 6 bucks. I came home and installed the game with ease and registered it online. I started playing not knowing weather I just blew my money or what. Well let me just tell you that I think this is the wisest investment ever made in my 14 year old life. I'm only on the 1st chapter and already am in love with the game. The graphics are amazing, The battle system rocks and theres just so much stuff to do that I'm sure somebody could rack up over 50hrs of game play easily. Seeing as how I am new to the series I decided to check out the forums and see if anybody could offer any advice to the game or anything relating to it.( no spoilers please). I know that bio-ware makes other fabulous games such as dragon age origins but I found The Witcher to me the most interesting game that I have played. I hear that they are coming out with a Witcher 2 but I am unaware of anything to do with it. The 1 and only thing I like more about dragons age however is they incorporate dragons into the game, however I am unaware if Witcher Includes them as well but I will have to find out. The best of luck to you on your adventures throughout the game and I hope to post in the forums more and help contribute to peoples success in the game.

Just started it, but it feels good... I've played Dragon Age as a mage/arcane warrior and as a rogue, but this one feels more...alive or should I say dark and overwhelming. We'll see what the rest of the game has to offer, and if I can become as affected to the characters as I was in Dragon Age, but upto now I'm really positive.Grtz,OBOM

My recommendation to anyone playing The Witcher is to go with the Polish vo's instead of the English. The voice acting is so much better and fits with characters of the game, and it is Slavic after all.

It would actually be interesting to try that once. Maybe when I have completed it a few times more and 'know' all the lines.

What more do you need than subtitles? No different than watching a foreign film.

Actually I tried that just the other day (for the final stages of my last game, what will be my imported saves on TW2) and didnt worked at all...I CAN see what people mean, but the English version is not devoid of talent and subtlety, besides with Polish voiceovers I MUST read the subs in order to understand anything; that makes it hard to follow the action cinemetics on the screen.Polish is too alien to my ear also, I'm afraid.

That's why I would like to try it when I know the lines almost by heart. I don't want to have to read the subtitles all the time to know what is going on. Besides, I'm not so sure how much we non-Polish speakers gain by great voice acting in Polish when we don't know what they are saying. I've heard the translation is not always good, with different meaning, so what a Polish speaker hears may not be what we read. The English version may be a bit stale at times, but it's still pretty good. Certainly a great effort for the first game from a developer. I'm sure it will be much better in TW2.Going back to the thread's title, I just want to point out one small detail in conversations that seemingly no games get right. When a person is supposed to interrupt another, the delay is way, way too long. You hear the first person stop talking mid-sentence, then 2 seconds later the other person "interrupts". It looks a bit daft.Maybe it's a technical thing, I don't know. But seemingly no matter the budget, games mess this up. It was the same in Mass Effect too, hardly a game with too small a budget.
