Why is Geralt's horse named Roach?

Dandelion picked it, was named after the fish. He's kept it ever since, named all his horses Roach.

There might be some clues in the meaning of the original Polish word: płotka [pwotka] (feminine gender), which is actually a diminutive form of płoć ( [pwoch'] = roach) - and because of that is somewhat tender in character. The word also means "someone unimportant" as opposed to a "big fish" (in criminal context for instance).
