Yeah, I've tried in other games like batman ham city, metro 2033 and borderlands 2(opinions on the games themselves aside). My CPU cannot handle advanced physx of any level meaning I just gotta turn it off, which is a bummer.

Note: I have a core i5 2500 which is a fairly high end CPU. Edit: Nvidia advanced physx is accelerated using the CUDA API, which is only available on nvidia cards, so I think without some huge rewrites of advanced physx, it won't run on amd gpus ever.

As Guy N'wah pointed out, PhysX works on non Nvidia cards, but without hardware acceleration. So it'll eat more CPU: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PhysX#GPU

The weirdest part - it seems that AMD GPUs are capable of running PhysX with hardware acceleration, but Nvidia are just playing vile, and don't want to allow it.

In theory it works without acceleration, but in practice it doesn't, unless you want to have less than 15 FPS every time when advanced effects show up on your screen, even if you have high end CPU.

TressFX Physics by AMD in Tomb Raider and PecksFX Physics in BF4 works as well on NVIDIA GPUs and AMD GPUs.

In fact, there is no such thing as PecksFX, it was an April fools day prank ;)

It's better that someone comes here to say it, where it can be answered with facts, than posting on some random hate-filled site.

We now have a hidden post, and, I think, need for another reminder to avoid personal insults.

Why would I not buy this genre defining masterpiece?

Alright, I admit it, I'll probably get the game regardless of advanced physx on pc version or not. Unlike borderlands 2, the witcher 3 will probably have a great story and gameplay.

I'd still rather it not use advanced physx in any way.

If "experiencing the game fully" means never missing a fire spark or water moving in a certain way, well, heaven forbid the great writing and adventure distract one from Geralt's hair physics.

Maybe your effort would be better directed into persuading AMD to offer some non-zero amount of support.

That would be the day :D

Hmph, i am glad that those people won't buy it. They wouldn't enjoy the game anyway.

Because it only runs on Nvidia cards at an acceptable rate. There are other solutions out there for these kinds of effects that run on both AMD and Nvidia hardware. It's pretty self explanatory why this is a bad thing.

Which other solutions in particular?
I'm quite sure that PhysX is the only way to have this awesome fur without some huge investment of the programmers' time to implement it from the ground up. Otherwise CDPR would certainly go for these alleged "other solutions".
So it seems that your opinion basically equals "if I can't have it, let nobody have it". And, by the way, you _can_ have it, if you upgrade to an Nvidia card in time for TW3 release, which is still quite far away.

There's havok which does gpu acclerated now, and there's also tressfx for hair and fur.(correct me if I'm wrong on the tressfx).

As for your statement about telling me to buy an nvidia card. It's these sort of blatant practices from nvidia which makes me NOT buy their hardware. If I purchased an Nvidia card that's the same as me buying an Xbox One because an exclusive game is on it I want. I'm not going to allow microsoft to put their 24 hour check on me just because there's a game I want.

I bet that OP will buy game anyway and he will enjoy it. Right now he is just frustrated and he overreacts a bit. I know that it's very frustrating to know that your favorite game is "not meant to be played" on your PC ;). I know that I will be frustrated if it happen to be true. I will still enjoy the game, but TW is type the game that I want to enjoy, if the best possible way.

It's always funny to find the same childish thoughts and reactions on every video game forums. It's always been the war between graphics manufacturers, and a lot of games work better on AMD or Nvidia, just a few of them not to say none of them run equally on both. If they had chose AMD, Nvidia users which are a bit more numerous would have complained about it. So they made a move to ensure best graphics for their game, how is that a wrong choice ? Just go buy nvidia, or stop complaining.

LOL. It sounds as 'fuck you' from CDPR. No, thanks. If CDPR wants to sell game for all users and to have a more buyers without requirements for replace vendor's graphics card CDPR must to sell game without one-vendor's lockiin technology.

Not buying Witcher 3 because of PhysX seems even weirder than buying it because of PhysX.

Next thing I see is going to be "not buying Witcher because his underwear has no tesselation".
