IFRIT: a native English proofreader wanted!

Dear all,

Hopefully there's no need to describe what Ifrit is
We're seeking a native English speaker who can proofread the translations of 'The Crossroads', our biggest adventure for The Witcher 1. An enormous group of people wanted us to publish an English version. If you have some free time, help us make it as best as it's possible

Do you mean “check for spelling and grammatical errors” when you say proofread or do you also want stylistic advice? I could provide the former but not necessarily the latter.

Hi Demut, thanks for your willingness to help! :]

By "proofreading" I mean especially grammatical errors, I think it's the most significant part. Moreover, although we tried to do our best, some words may not necessarily sound naturally in a context. So except from the grammar, it would be great if you could also take into consideration the use of some words & expressions. ;]

Sure, I’d try but unlike the orthography part I’m not the best match for that second part since I’m not a native speaker I know, I know, you specifically stated in the OP that you’d prefer one but English was one of my advanced courses in Highschool (well, the German equivalent thereof) and I got perfect grades in my senior year. That leads me to believe that I might do as a proofreader nevertheless

So yeah, if you still want me then I’d be glad to help although you might wanna look for one other person (this time an actual a native speaker, hehe) for that bit about expressions, idioms and what not where I might not be 100% as well-versed as an Englishmen/US-American :>

Sorry I do appreciate it, but you have to admit that no German - including even those with perfect grades - can equal a native English speaker.

Well, I’d actually claim that this can very well be the case. Proof of that can be found on virtually every website on the Internet. Just look at the atrocious spelling, grammar and vocabulary of native English speakers that you will inevitably come across in most comment sections.
See, despite the respective classes in school the majority of native speakers never get to know their language and its underlying grammatical rules et cetera as thoroughly as a foreigner who has to learn it from the ground up. In that regard I would say that a second language speaker may very well equal (or actually surpass) many a native speaker. The sense of the language (important for the appropriate use of terms, idioms and such) is another matter entirely but even that can be attained.

But don’t worry, I understand your reasoning and just wanted to address that assertion of yours :3

I at one point debated becoming an english teacher(year's ago before I decided to become a full-time slacker) and I do a lot of this sort of thing for friends. I have a knack for rephrasing and smoothing the written word. I realize this post is a bit dated, but if you still need the help feel free to message me.

If you think the plural of "year" is "year's," then you shouldn't be proofreading.

Sorry I tend not to over-analyze my forum postings. I was just offering a helping hand if it was still needed, honestly that is a laughable error... It actually surprises me to the extreme considering I hate apostrophes, maybe it was a subconscious guilt give to them for all the contractions I have intentionally stole from them?
