I'm I the only one who is mildly skeptical with CDProjekt's claims about TW3?

I am skeptical to a degree yes, concerning a whole mess of things, not least of which is the import system, or how the Wild Hunt and Emhyr will be portrayed. I also sometimes feel like CDPR is biting more than it can chew.

But I have faith!

Please don't get me wrong, I'm very ambitious about The Witcher 3 and I have no doubts about CDProjekt's abilities as a game developer. But some of the claims they make about TW3 just seem a little too big for me to be completely sold on having the promises they make.

CDProjekt claims that the open world of TW3 will be 20% bigger then Skyrim's yet the game doesn't contain loading screens. I mean I'm almost positive that there will be interior locales like inns or caves and maybe the new engine will be able to bring you into the smaller area without a lot of loading time, but when you have to reenter the main world the game has got to reload all that space and information right? Plus if they are right and the graphics engine isn't even complete at the time of those screenshots we saw in the game informer (Which looked very well done for any current gen title, if you ask me) then the finished graphics engine will produce some truly epic detail, but will require a lot of loading time. Now I understand that this is a next-gen game, but I just can pull myself to believe that we can have that much information in a game and not have at least some loading time involved.

Take into account that the above screen isn't finished graphically. Do you really think that a world bigger then skyrim can have this much detail or more and have no loading screens involved in the game?

TW2 already had fast transitions between indoor and outdoor locales. I never experienced a loading screen within one zone in TW2.

It is very possible to not have loading screens at any point in TW3. As it is, games don't generally render an entire zone when they load with the highest quality assets for the entire zone. That's where LOD comes into play. Basically, anything that falls out of certain range from the player is loaded with low-res assets, with some objects even not rendered, which then get replaced with the high-res assets or rendered when the player is at a certain distance from them or breaks a certain invisible plane.

If anyone's played GTA IV on PC (I'm not sure if it's the same on consoles, it probably is) then you're probably aware of the fact that game didn't have any loading screens. EXCEPT, for when accepting a mission. That's the only time the game had to load the assets. Apart from that, there was one giant loading screen when you fired your save up and after that, it was smooth sailing baby. Everything flowed like water on warm butter. Or something like that :p

So yeah, the hardware and tech will definitely allow it, now it's all up to RED for optimization.

Oh and one more thing: Am I the only one (see what I did there? :p ) who can't see op's image? I can't see his attached screenshot and when I click on the link, it just says "file extension not available on this forum" or something like that. Are others experiencing the same thing or has my computer decided to call it quits!?

No, you're not the only one.
Guess I can dismiss IE10 and W8 as culprits this time around

I'm getting a blurry pixelated pic.

Is this meant to prove a point or is IE10 up to no good?

It's a claim that can only be proven by delivering what they say they will deliver.

As to whether it's possible, yes, it is. Not on low-end hardware, but on hardware good enough to do substantial disk I/O in the background.

As well as with enough memory to load extra resources before they actually become needed (and to keep them a good time after that, just in case). I hope TW3 won't have a hard requirement for SSDs though. But would be interesting to see the minimal requirements. Also, if they want to squeeze every inch of disk I/O, they'll probably work on better data compression.

(Google image) not misguided. Development of TW2 started on Aurora Engine and finished running on their own Red Engine which visuals won few of awards..
And someone is worried about future of TW3 because they released screenshots of the game which were rendered on older version of the Red Engine? guys please give it a break.

Misguided wasn't the right word to use, but it's a crappy screenshot. You should've posted a link to the video.

I don't think it was running on Aurora Engine, even back then.

As I understand it, the OP was actually making the opposite point. He was saying there's little chance in hell the RED engine can deliver such a vast expansive open world with the level of detail showcased in those pics.

At this point in time, it boils down to faith. Some have it, others don't. No fellow forumer is going to come here and provide factual reasons for believing or disbelieving the claim.

Unless, of course, a CDP team member decides to step in and shed some light.
Here's hoping.

We'll get a better idea of what the engine is capable of at E3, most likely.

Am I the only one who would want to get this alpha build of a game on a TW1 engine, as a gift or a bonus? They made quite a few changes, and I would like to see what they had in mind earlier in the development.

If you read this, CDPR, could you pretty please release the alpha as a free download bonus on GOG?

Haha yeah I've been noticing a lot of people saying that and I suspect for the most part people are being sarcastic :p Good stuff guys, if we keep this up we can start our own cult! "Are we the only ones who say are we the only ones?"

I'm not complaining that the graphics won't look good or not. I'm quite sure that the game graphics will look epic. What my Post is on about is CDProjekt's claim that they can have this level of detail in an open world 30 times large then TW2 and claim that the engine can remove loading screens from the equation.
