Imlerith boss fight is ridiculously hard

+
Laughed so hard at the angry thread title.

He's not overly hard, more tedious if anything.

Besides, it's far more satisfying to defeat him than Eredin, that was disappointing.
:eredinfacepalm:

If you thought that Imlerith is hard, then you should try fighting The Operator in TW2. That fight is one of the hardest fight I have ever had in my whole gaming experience. I defeated Imlerith after more than 10 tries, though. While beating The Operator took hours, I don't even know how many hundred consequent tries. Almost jumped out of my seat when that sucker went down :D

God, this fucker set my ass on fire so many times, I miss that feeling :D

TW2 bosses were epic and unforgettable, which I can't say about TW3 ones, sadly.

beat him on death march with no active shield, no decoctions on and mostly sword attacks the occasional igni to melt the ice and yrden to slow him down, when he goes berserk and teleports behind you all the time anticipate it, oh and samum bomb does wonders in that phase of the fight.

That's exactly what I did, I think the fight went smoothly enough following this method.

Hahaha and I was also expecting that a similar fight exists in TW3 so I could have that feel of "satisfaction" again :D. Other than Imlerith, if you decide to fight the Botchling, it has the potential to be as difficult as The Operator in my opinion

If you beat him in a continuous fashion, with whirl for example, the final phase where he teleports won´t be triggered at all, or at least it will be delayed, making the fight substantially easier.

I'm playing through on Death March, I've completed this fight, and I fully, 100% agree with the OP. Bullshit.

Phase 1: Super fun, very reminiscent our Lords of the Fallen: with patience and observation, you can get through it without even getting hit. Screw up and he hits really, really hard, but easy if you're patient.

Phase 2: BULLSHIT BULLSHIT SWING SWING SWING SWING AAHHHHHH SWING SWING SWING minor misstep or accidentally dodge into him STUNLOCK DEAD.

Two things got me through. First is Archgriffin decoction. Wouldn't have thought of it if other people here hadn't recommended it. Fan-damn-tastic.
Second, each time you roll dodge away from him, pull back on the analog stick and walk backwards towards the screen. Doing that while also trying to manually re-align the camera makes it so he always teleports to the same place - and this is important - relative to the camera.
I know he always ports behind you, but "behind you" can reaaallly vary when you're jumping around frantically. But if you try to align the camera each time, and he always jumps below you on the screen, you can say to yourself, "I'm always dodging right (or left or whatever) and that won't be into him. And that helped me soooo much.

It still took me a few tries, because, you know, bullshit. But I got through it.

I just can't believe they created such a fun first half of a fight and such a shitty second half. Were there two design teams and the second was like, "WE HATE PLAYORZ 'N STUFF!"

Agree with OP.
Imlerith sucked a big fat one.
Not from a difficulty point of view but a cheaty bullshit point of view.
There were so many great monster battles in this game that were genuinly pants pooingly hard, and fun as a result.
Imlerith was frustratingly bullshit not because he was hard but repetitive.
Was so disappointed with this fight as it felt like he was pulled staight from a platform game... I hate platform games.

In any case ekhidna, quen, dodge like a bastard, smack smack, rinse and repeat.

wow, I'm playing on Death March difficulty and I've just got to this boss. Boy is he tough! About 8 tries in and I still haven't beaten him. His second phase is cruel, one miss-step and you are FUCKED. It's a pretty challenging exercise in PATIENCE for the player. I know some people (above) hate this fight and think it's BS but, even though he's wrecking me atm, I do not feel his moveset is unfair or cheesy in anyway. I can see his patterns and they are fair, the problem is that I lose focus towards the end. Every loss I've had so far has been a mistake on my part.

But really, I just wanted to commend CD Projekt for having the balls to include a fight that is truly challenging - that's rare to find in any AAA title these days. It takes balls and we should encourage this. The fight is fair, it just takes a LOT of patience and some skill from the player. As they say in Dark Souls: "git gud" :)

Respect CD Projekt ;)

PS: just wanted to say too, the lore on this guy suggests he is a total badass. The guy fights in death tournaments for FUN and sees battle as an art. Everything about him screams badass. I just love his intro sequence, too....really moody and menacing. His intro sequence sent a genuine chill down my spine when I first saw it. yes, I'm rambling sorry, but this boss is just impressive in so many ways. Really good job CDP.

How is this fight fair?
He's literally a random-place-teleporting, Geralt's-shit-hitbox-exploiting, never-ending-combo-using, unparryable, un-Axii-able damage tank.
This is not a challenge, it's an anti-player cheat

When he started to teleport I just chugged a superior blizzard potion so I could dodge him easy. I whirled him in the back until he died. Easy.

The biggest issue I had was entering at a low level and he can blast you pretty quickly . Once your level is up there he is easy .

Death march difficulty thrives on the very bad camera and target lock in this game. It is almost as if encounters are designed with that frustrating element in mind.

on top of that, Imlerith also got a ridiculously big hitbox, so prancing around him won't work. But well, that's only, because his weapon has more reach than it visually suggests, so you are misguided by purpose, by design. I hate that.

Anyway, beating him is not that hard. Just find the maximum distance to him, which he still allows you to have without teleporting and prance around him using fast attacks. You will win fairly easy. using Igni is wasted time, by the way, he will have his shield everytime again after a teleport. And do not use target lock.Target lock is a death sentence. You have no choice but to practise adjusting the camera. This sucks. Sure. But it is the only way. At least it was for me.

Finally beat him first time after a respec. Was pretty easy after. Problems might be related to so so builds

I can't beat this guy.
I'm playing on Easy to avoid such fights and he is a ridiculous jump in difficulty.
I've read tons of hints and watched a bunch of vids, but I'll never beat him.
The second phase is too chaotic. By the time I right the camera, I am hit.
Outstanding game, but looks like I will need to quit it.

update: Well, I finally got lucky. Didn't change my strat much.
Just things fell into place.
