Project Orion needs a more visual and impactful way to display the benefits and side effects of Cyberware and combat status. We should implement a 'Synapse Status' system similar to the buff/debuff display in games like Skyrim.
1. Unified Status Display
Dedicated UI: Create a dedicated area on the HUD (perhaps a small window or list near the health bar, accessible with a keypress, similar to the weapon wheel) that lists all active buffs (green icons) and debuffs (red icons).
Detailed Descriptions: When the player hovers over an icon (or pauses the game), it should provide a detailed description:
Example Buff (Green): Cold Blood Stack (10/15): +30% Movement Speed, +5% Crit Chance. Duration: 5s remaining.
Example Debuff (Red): Cyberware Malfunction (EMP): Gorilla Arms disabled, Quickhack menu inaccessible. Duration: 10s remaining.
2. The Blackwall Agent's Unique Debuff Display
This system is essential for your faction's core mechanic:
Corruption Integration: The "Synapse Status" window would be the primary way the Blackwall Agent sees their own Blackwall Corruption debuffs:
Example Debuff (Red): System Failure (Corruption 80%): -25% to Aim Stability, Random HUD Flicker. Duration: Permanent until cleansed.
Cyberware Side Effects: It could also display the permanent side effects of heavy, advanced cyberware, reflecting your character's growing digital dependency:
Example Debuff (Orange/Yellow): Optical Glitch (Tier 5 Kiroshi): Night Vision permanently impaired. Permanent effect.
Why this benefits the game:
Clarity in Combat: In a fast-paced multiplayer environment, players need to know immediately if their teammate is Crippled, EMP'd, or Buffed by a Netrunner.
Roleplaying Depth: It makes Cyberware feel like a risk/reward system. Players can see the beneficial buffs of their new arm while also seeing the permanent debuffs (side effects) of installing powerful, experimental tech.
