Don't ever underestimate how good fastfood can be.
For example, the famous Philly Cheesesteack:
I had the original Philly, well, in Philly. Quite disappointing, but my people are very spoiled when it comes to food.

The only good rushed game I know is death stranding. And it still has some problems.

Stumbled upon the news while eating breakfast. This image is the closest I can find to match my reaction:

I am not, however, surprised. So, take your time devs. I'll wait as I've waited before. Got so many games to play until autumn comes along.

The game will be truly epic, considering the time, love and care you put into your games.

Love you devs! You do what you do best! :giggle:

Yes. And I can imagine the QA for CP2077 will be (is already?) hellish. I can't forsee any game this huge being problem-free on release (nor releasing on-time), but I can respect them wanting to ensure they have time to achieve some stretch goals, perhaps, then polish everything up as much as they can.

After pondering this for a while here these are what makes sense to cause the delay and silence.
  • Performance was underwhelming
  • Numerous AI issues
  • Game Stability
  • Numerous miscellaneous game play bugs

Performance was underwhelming - Given the complexities of this game being a large city with tons of AI and no loading screens, it seems likely there were issues in certain areas where the performance didn't hit the targets for consoles. Given the relative market share of consoles this was deemed unacceptable and probably a big task for their optimizations and polishing.

Numerous AI Issues - They are trying to do a LOT with AI in this game and this is also their first time tackling AI in a FPS. It makes sense in combat there are many times the AI does not behave correctly leading to a bad experience. Within the city there probably a lot of examples of AI doing 'dumb' things given the complexity. This could be quite embarrassing.

Game Stability - It seems rather likely that the game is not 100% stable and will crash during certain scenes or areas and this is unacceptable on release. Remember back during the E3 showing there were multiple mentions of the game crashing there as well. It looks like the issues were much deeper than originally thought.

Numerous miscellaneous game play bugs - The good news is the testers and QA teams are doing their jobs, it would just seem that the list of items they found to fix was much larger than anticipated and the closure of the items is going slower than anticipated.

Taking the culminations of those items they probably looked at probability of closure and ROI to releasing on April and deemed it was a bad decision. The items above would lead to negative reviews and press and hurt the sales of the game. So they probably looked at the time need to guarantee the closure on the majority of items and went with that as a replacement, also explains why so long. The game will still release with issues, it's just how it goes. It just depends on the severity of the issues.

So with this game releasing right next to next gen consoles I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed that they have no plans for a next gen release, especially because next generation is supposed to blow current gen out of the water (plus 30xx series GPUs releasing at similar time).

My hope is this: They release current content as planned, however, alongside DLC production they develop a "GOTY" edition for next gen when DLC is finished with improved textures, more NPCs and maybe some added content (wouldn't expect much, just an updated version would be nice).

Next gen is all backwards compatible too. Add the "GOTY" improvements as a free update to season pass holders and it'd allow them to play the improved content on next gen when it's available.

What does that have to do with the PC version of C2077?
Releasing a game on different platforms on different dates is not uncommon those days, in one way or the other.

The whole story is about "...how hope beyond hope was fulfilled."

I say we're good.

We're good indeed!

It's just that since 2013 I've been trying to picture this game. Trying to picture when it would be released. Then, when the release date came, I thought "Hey! 2020! I should have thought of that!" considering the original Cyberpunk 2020.

I succeeded in preordering my CE's...only to lose them(GameStop closes down in Nordic countries).
It didn't matter.
I was a fool to believe my luck would last.
Then this.
So my initial reaction was much like that image of Gandalf.
A hopeful fool, all along. Hopeful for a release date 13 weeks away.
Then, as I went to work I felt assured that this delay is for the best if the devs feel it is for the best.
I do not lose faith in the devs.
Hope lingers still.
I just hope I'll live to see it.

Well we have rumors that this was not overall state of the game that caused this decision but some undisclosed technical issue. Whatever it is its likely the reason they had to keep the game under tight lid thorough 2019 and probably did not had a build ready to be used for marketing campaign now.

So they have 6 months of crunching until they would be forced to show their game again in E3 2020. And given how close that is to release people will expect floodgates to be open then.

I was just thinking about 2 things:
1) why did they say the 48 min demo was NOT a vertical slice? it didn't look that bad and the game still needed 2+ years of development? That was clearly a lie or an exaggeration to say the least.
2) They've been showing a -now- 1 year old demo around the world and after 1 year of development the game is still not acceptable? Wow, I know it wasn't that good but not even a disaster.

It sounds like a critic, it really is not. Just very surprising.

Give this one a read.

While my attitude to delays is always 'release when it's ready', it doesn't stop me from being infuriated. What would have been wrong with simply saying, back at E3, 'It'll be ready when it's ready'? I'm not aiming this solely at CDPR, it's just a pet hate of mine in gaming.

I simply don't need to hear that a game will be released in 9 months time. There's still such a huge amount of work required, that there's very little chance that devs know 100% the game will be released then, so why say it to begin with? The further out a release date is, the more variables there are still in play to mess things up.

Any release date over 6 months away shouldn't even be entertained, they're just too unreliable, though I'm sure devs want as much of a hype-train and all the coinciding pre-orders as possible.

Also, this new date is still 8 months away, so there's absolutely no reason to think they'll release then either. If they need an extra 5 months, that's a ton of work they foresee, especially when they talk about crunch being needed. This doesn't sound like a gentle coasting in to the release date, taking time to reflect on the final product, fine-tune and polish. Speaking of which...

I keep hearing the word 'polish', but I no longer feel I understand what that even means in this context. I'm getting the impression, I hope wrongly, that the amount of work, changes to the way mechanics feel and actual balancing needed is way deeper than just 'polishing'. Which makes me question how difficult they're finding it to create the actual hands-on gameplay. Perhaps they are really struggling in those departments?

How much are they having to wrestle and struggle with things like FPS mechanics, melee, stealth-combat and driving, in particular?

Given their pedigree, I'd imagine voice-work, scripts, quests, world building and story are all on point, it's the other areas I have doubts over.

Anyway, I wish them all the best. When other games get delayed I don't really care, so my disappointment is actually a kind of compliment ;) The reason this delay frustrates me so much is because it's my second most anticipated game this generation after W3. So many other games these past few years just fail to really engage me.

You guys haven't given me any reason to doubt you yet, so I'll keep eager waiting. Keep up the great work, and with the extra time hopefully the crunch won't be as bad on the team.

That just doesn't sell well when having an A lister celebrity "showcasing" a trailer. Just seeing the influx of people that joined the forums and were talking about the game after that E3 presentation it worked for them. This is a backfire and many feel the same way as you. I cancelled my preorder long ago and it seems that was the right move for me. I'll wait a couple weeks and see how it goes whenever it really does launch

I have to admit that I'm surprised. Not disappointed, but surprised.

When it became clear that this wouldn't be a 2019 game, I had no real expectation for any release date until they actually gave one. When they announced it, the date sounded sufficiently definitive that I assumed they were basically done with the game, and entering the optimization and bug squashing phase. Clearly that was a bad assumption.

This new target date is problematic because it's only a few weeks before people are going to start transitioning to the new consoles. Shouldn't hurt the PC sales though.
