After the years of waiting, watching and supporting, I have to admit I was very disappointed on day one. The performance was obviously the crux of my disappointment but what I was more hung up on was that I felt scammed. The decision to not show console footage, and even go as far as to threaten customers that got the game early not to stream, was an active decision to deceive.
This had me more annoyed than the quality of the game. Out of all the studios I'm not sure there was another studio I considered as unique and dedicated to their fan base as CDPR.
I have now forgiven them though. You don't get mass produced, Mind numbing crap with CDPR. You can always expect a gritty, hardcore experience that push every boundary to the limit, and they deliver every time. They even headbutt the crazy OVER politically correct scene and as a result produce content like no other studio would dare... Just no F's given.
The financial decisions are made by the executives, the ones more concerned with their wallets than the art. They have been made billionaire by pushing this title early and that does grind my gears a little.
The development teams shouldn't just get their bonuses but should reap the same benefits as the guys that make the money off their hard work and the bad decisions that lead to that work being unfairly underrated.
A lot of time and love went into this game and other than the crappy day one performance I've had a great time in Night City overall, the new patch has really improved the performance. My thoughts have gone from the rollercoaster
"wow, no rubbish, maybe it's ok, that looks nice, maybe not, what the hell is?"
To
"OMFG this Is F'in amazing".
I spend hours in photo mode and just gawking at the world now. It is a beautiful creation and although lacking in interactivity, people, vehicles and other immersive assets etc, the hand crafted side missions are basically detailed and rich beyond any content I've seen from a side mission. Whole stories within a story that can wrap you up in hours of gameplay.
I spent almost an entire day of gameplay with one character, after I had arrived at the insanely cool conclusion to her side story I realised that wasn't even a main objective and had no baring on my progression as a whole into the main story. The world is full of these characters and they offer a hell of a lot of content.
I can see where the time went and I'm happy to wait for optimisation to add extra immersion and I rate these guys just as much as I ever did.
As for the executives, I hope the executives have learnt a lesson and to listen to their development teams rather than their pockets because if they scam us again, there won't be a third chance.
