Impressions after 4 days playing on the 1.00 version
Hello all, I'm not here for starting a downgrade thread but to give you an advice : If you're on ps4 you should try playing on the 1.00 version of the game.
I quit playing this game shortly after the release of the 1.04 patch, because as you know there's more bugs/glitches coming with every patch since 1.02 and I wanted to prevent my playthrough from being badly altered with all this immersion-breaking bugs (missing NPCs and other visual issues).
But I did not have the patience to wait until the bugs are fixed, so I restarted a playthrough and I'm going to give you my impressions after approximatively 15-20 hours playing on the unpatched version and comparing it to the 1.04 version (installing and uninstalling the game/patches like 3 times). I'll leave you to choose if the unpatched version fits you better than the 1.04 (soon 1.05) version.
Let's begin with the bad sides of the 1.00 version :
- Camera sluttering is back.
- Some frame rate issues in cutscenes.
- Some NPCs/Grass turfs pop ins are more noticeable than they are now, but it's a very rare issue.
- No DLCs.
- The wet clothes bug is there.
- Minor details missing (like the auto scaling of the number of items you want to sell to a merchant with the amount of money he have. And the size of the text which is a little smaller than in the 1.04)
- Lights from firecamps and torches seems to appear later than in the 1.04, not in time but in terms of draw distance.
- You need to restart your playthrough. (Good for me since I made some very bad choices in my previous game.)
And here's what the 1.00 does better :
- fog/smoke/dust in the wind effects appear far more frequently and at a larger scale.
- Lesser quality shadows in some situations (hair shadows on NPCs) but much more shadows, frome bushes to trees, and better shadow draw distance.
- All the NPCs are here (Novigrad and Oxenfurt included), and there's far less pop ins.
- Better blood effects but not in every situation (still better than in the 1.04)
- Better water, with reflection (maybe it's a matter of taste but I think the water is better.)
- NPCs textures don't load in front of the player.
- Less fences/bushes/cosmetics items pop ins.
- Better overall light effects, more contrasted and more pronounced, especially at night (Sadly I don't have any proof of this, so maybe it's a placebo effect, take this with a grain of salt).
- Gwent cards are lootable in random crates and inn keepers/ merchants sell more cards (from 4 to 9), very usefull for rebuilding your deck after restarting the game.
- Zero bug so far (I've done White Orchard entire area, Keira Metz subplot and a third of the Bloody Baron subplot.)
That's all, take my advice or not, but I'm really enjoying my new playthrough with the unpatched version, and I think I'll stick with it until the game gets rid of the bugs introduced with the 1.03/1.04 patches.
I apologize for not being word-perfect in English, but I made my best.
