i do prefer first-person view, but would like the option of switching to third-person as well. having the option to switch between the two would also encourage more people to try the game as well if they have one preference over the other.

First person without a single moment of doubt. Look at the Half-Life series where you actually feel like being Gordon Freeman compared to the Deus Ex, Metal Gear Solid series where you just feel like controlling someone else. (I love all these games so don't get me wrong).

But I think the most important thing is to never let the camera off the eyes of the character the player control and never give the character a voice just like in Half-Life and mostly in Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines. I want to feel the entire game through my own eyes, especially in the cutscenes my character is present.

In a sandbox RPG I want to play myself and the best way is either have my own voice interact in the game through VOIP or not give my character a voice at all and just let me hear it inside my own head.

Look at the gameplay in Mirror's Edge and The Chronicles of Riddick on how to make great first-person-view combat. Dont make the melee combat like Deus Ex 3 which was practically nothing.

And if the game will have a multiplayer part, then you cant have both 3rd and 1st person view since you can look around corners without exposing yourself by using 3rd person view which makes sneaking in games too easy and boring. Its gives a better feeling knowing that you must risk exposing yourself to get a clear view of the battlefield.

Bottom line. 1st person view is superior in everything when done right, but I guess it's easier to do things in 3rd person at the cost of better immersion and that "getting in character" feel.

Just as my sexuality, I swing multiple ways.

It is my wish that the developers develop the game they have in mind.
What I am really curious about is if this is going to be a storydriven game and if so, will it be in the similiar vein as of games of today with all their multiple choice system or will the story mostly be linear? If any of these, will one of the viewpoints or will both work?

So much unnecesaary information.
It's CDPR. Storytelling game, branching storylines, etc.

And just like my cat, I too swing...in circles, at high speed, with a yowl.

I like to flip flop most of the time so I'll say both. or either, or one then other. What ever suits the story and or the targeted playstyle, or just lets the devs sleep easier at night.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines has a third-person view option. I spend the entire game playing it in third-person mode. On every single playthrough. Your point is moot. :D

Also, I find third-person more immersive. First-person more often than not causes me a great deal of disorientation and nausea, thus taking me entirely out of the game due to the fact that I'm unable to play it for longer than five to ten minutes before wretching. It's called 'Simulator Sickness', and it's actually not an uncommon thing for many gamers. So there's your 'superior in everything' argument out the window too.

amen... I don't get sick, but I definitely prefer 3rd person view. It just looks better. And like I said, I want to see my character doing groovy things, especially in melee. Melee in first person is always disappointing, at best.

If possible I really think it should have both options available, it's hard to know what view style is best for a game without trying it, because the way the game is played sorta effects which view works best for the game.

Can't imagine Uncharted or Max Payne in first person having ability to switch camera. CP2077 will have vehicles and most likely Mad Max style car chase combat its will defo be 3rd person.

Also camera and world awareness is just superior in 3rd person. MGS4 had great mix of both and that's how it should be done to make every happy.

Just spent a little time playing the Firefall Beta. The 1st to 3rd person swap is pretty seamless and enjoyable BOTh ways. If you haven't had a chance, check it out - open weekend soon - and see what you think.

I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it both ways. First was still more immersive though, nyah. Although 3rd -did- look cooler, jump jets firing, etc.

Well, Mouse, the issue is that some games, (fallout 3 and it's ilk) look pretty crappy in Third Person. And these repulsive egomaniacs who need to stare at themselves as they play, find that off-putting. Weakness!

I hope they code for both and just, I dunno, make sure 3rd person looks great.

I have yet to play a game that does both well. Usually one view is a perk, the other is meant to be dominant. And I hate to sound like a broken record, but you can't have an elaborate melee system in first person. I hope that if we create the opportunity, the camera pans back a bit and we can engage in some fisticuffs.

You should be able to have an elaborate melee system in first person - that's where I've alwyas fought. Years ago, of course, on the rare occasion it cropped up.

It's just that all the current FP melee I can think of, well, sucked. Hmm..there's..no. Or..nope. Damn. They all suck.

Hopefully both so most people can be pleased.
Personally I'd go for 1st person view. Easier to see and pick up objects. Lean keys to look around corners.
And my vanity factor would be satisfied with mirrors, cutscenes / conversations and if they would hopefully model your whole body (FEAR style).

Sorry not so familiar with Cyberpunk 2020, so I don't know how big part melee combat is. When I think of cyberpunk guns are big part of it and in that 1st person still rules supreme.
When this game was announced I immediately pictured it to be 1st person similar to Deus Ex, but done by better dveloper atm :)
Even though half my time in Deus Exes was still spent with nano-blade and silent takedowns. But I was still perfectly satisfied with that simple melee combat.

I remember when playing DXHR I thought that control scheme just about perfect. But obviously it wasn't as fun in a fantasy game (Skyrim). But like I said hopefully we get both.

From the begining my suggestion ahs been to program in third person with a first person switch option.

As for combat, martial arts are almost as big a part of Cyberpunk combat as guns... and the core rules devoted just about as much page space to them.

Sleeping dogs has the best melee combat mechanic in an open world game I have seen yet. It really is sublimely beautiful... One of the best bits in the mechanic is the way they handle disarms... this needs to be included in the game...

In fact, it would be really nice to have fluid and dynamic system that flawless integrates melee and gun combat... To give us that desperate, brutal, and relentless combat feel provided by the Bourne movies, John Woo's hong kong flicks, and Raid: The Redemption.

Picture a scene where you drop into a group of enemies, kicking one, punching another, turning to find another has pulled a gun, you block the gun, grabbing his arm ad pulling him into you, forcing him to shoot his friend, before you wrench the gun from his hand, spin kick him, and empty the magazine into his center of mass... then turn around and use the gun to pistol whip the last enemy to death...

I don't know if something like that is possible in a game that's already asking so much... but it was possible in Sleeping Dogs, and it felt absolutely as cool as I just described....

However something like this requires a Third Person Perspective. It simply cannot be done in any way that would make sense in FPP, because all you would see is a blur.

I have to say, though, as fun (and good looking) as the HtH combat in Sleeping Dogs was at first, it got tiresome and repetitive pretty fast too.

Yeah, I think that's because you do so much of it. And it's generally so easy you need great groups of people to fight. HOPEfully CP2077 HtH will be more like Batman: AC at the start on Hard - one or two screw ups and it's over.
