I prefer 3rd. Obviously the option for both would be nice, but that's a lot of work I'm sure.

If it does end up being 1st person for some reason, I hope you can look down at yourself and see everything from your chest down for a more immersive experience.

I don't want my reticle be lined up with the enemy's face and then blow myself up with some anti-tank missile because I can't shoot over the barrier or through a slit.

It is very important that the game is third person as i don’t play first person.

I was thinking they could just do native 3rd person view with optional FPP view when you want to look/walk around and see some beautiful scenery .

Third person for melee combat, first person for shooting.

This has probably been brought up before in the thread, but if the game does end up with an optional first view, full body awareness should be a thing. I want to see my character's body when I look down.

No point of having extensive character customization if it will be 1st person perspective.

Or melee. Or object traversal and hurdling.

Wait, that's everything to you?

I really enjoyed my looks in Deus Ex Human Revolution. And Far Cry 3. Also object traversal. Mirror's Edge same.

Melee....yeah. That'll suck in first person, nearly guarantee. On the other hand, it's a game set in 2077, melee isn't going to be my preferred playstyle because, well, they invented guns.

Hey, I know! Let's just get bots to come in here and argue our viewpoints every month or so. Gives us more time to start threads about 80s fashion.

67% of the people who answered the poll would like first person in some form. I personally think it would be a travesty if the game was third person only.

Having both option is the right idea.. In my opinion they complete each other.. You now say melee is not going to be your preferred play style but i'm sure when you get your arm blades, blade combos and other stuff like that you will change your tone :D

Since it doesn't take much more resources: both FP and TP. If you do it in FP, you'll have TP animations and models anyway, so you might as well put a button in that changes between the two, like in FireFall or pretty much all BGS games.
For example, in melee TP is preferable IMHO, but when it comes to shooting, i like my first person perspective.

On the subject of shooting: make the magazine a separate part of the weapon, so that the character takes it out when reloading. It looks really strange (and in this case, it doesn't matter if it's in FP or TP. Example: APB - OBIR, N-HVR).

o_O ?...

I don't know how you're reading the data, mate, but if you look at the people who voted for *only* one option, third person is winning by a fair margin.

You can't really fairly count the people who voted for "both" as part of the First-Person-only crowd, exclusively. I could flip that and say a touch over 85% of people voted for third person in some form or another.

Regardless, I do hope that they're able to implement both views. (Though, if they only go with one view, I'm one of the Third-Person people, m'self.)

I think you could fairly say that 67% of the people would like or could tolerate First person and 85% of the people would like or could tolerate Third person.

If you had to pick just one, TPS would win. But both would be even better.

Will someone explain to me why FPS is better than over the shoulder camera in TPS?

Immersion. It's me, I'm there, it's real. Well, real-er. I look forward to Oculus Rift VR. Which, yes will be in First Person, because of immersion.

For shooters, clear view and slickness of response matters in mouse-kb millisecond response time shooters as well. I'm not that good, but when I was on my game, anything that interfered with putting that crosshair over the often-tiny, fast moving target was to be abjured.

Not that CP2077 is a shooter in that sense. For me, it's immersion. I can't see the back of my own head in real life, and the closer I get to that rea-life view, the more immersive it is.

My favourite games, overall, are Stalker, Bloodlines, Thief, Deus Ex, Jedi Knight, Torment and Fallout. Only Torment isn't available in an FPS flavour. I have lots of non-FP games I love(d), Witcher, WoW, WAR, X-Com, Diablo...but they aren't my favourites overall. So that's me.
