Per the original posters request the poll has been reset. So if you want to cast a new note or have since changed your mind about your last vote now is the time to recast your vote. Happy voting guys and gals!

Shooting from first person using a crosshair instead of a scope or iron sights is a kind of a concession to begin with; I do know most FPS games only use crosshair, or crosshair and scope, and it's the minority that have iron sights. However, that's how a gun is supposed to be fired. You're supposed to feel like you're behind the gun when bullets fly.

Shooting manually from third person is just ridiculous to me. If it was point and click, and you'd order your character to fire his weapon, then sure, but if it's you moving the crosshair, I just can't get over the disconnect. Then again, when I'm playing third person, I don't feel like it's me who's in the game anyway. It feels like I'm watching some random dude or dudette move around while I'm hovering behind the character.

I don't know if it's my countless hours spent looking through the first person view, or what.

In an adventure game, an RPG game, like ME for example, it's fine. It's point and click. I point to an enemy and Shepard rips it to pieces. I can understand that. I'm not Shepard. If it's me behind the gun though, my self-made character I mean, I want to be the one shooting.

As such, if it's going to be strictly third person, then I hope they do away with any real life skill -based aiming altogether, and make it a fully point and click system, as well as give us a ready-made protagonist whose story we are following, and not our own. Then I can understand watching the events unfold from behind the shoulder or above the head of the guy or girl.

I wish I could just abandon the awesomeness that is the first person view, but I've played way too many awesome FPS' to do that. Thus I can't but hope it's both views. Clearly I'm not alone though, since over 47% of the people who answered would like to see the first person view implemented either as the only option, or as a choice. That's almost half, and I know at least a few answered third person before the "both"-option was added.

Almost half sounds to me like we need both options.

This is a truly baffling point of view. If I control a character in a game, be it in FP or TP, then it's me. There is no disconnect. Shooting manually from TP seems no more odd than punching or running in TP, or platforming in 2d; I'm still the one controlling. Now I understand that shooter purists want only FP, but this isn't just a shooter. There are numerous other activities we'll be engaging in, and having the game in FP will limit those activities because what you may gain in immersion you lose in variety. Forget about decent melee, running, jumping or any form of hurdling or parkour; those activities are abysmal in FP at best. And not to mention there will be no point in customization with FP, so you can forget that element too.

With so much attention to how the character will look (gadgets, enhancements, tatoos, hairstlyles and the like) it would fell odd not to have Third Person perspective... Not to mention all the aspects of melee fighting which in First Person doesnt translate too well in video-games.

I would only add First Person as an option if theres a surplus of money in the budget for it or smthg. :p

I'm going to have to go with both, I find that some games work better with first person, others work better with third person. Also I just enjoy being able to choose based on how I want to play at the moment such as in the newer Fallout games.

Exactly the point, unless they did a Skyrim move on us.

In RPG, I'm used to third person view but first person view is also important for game film maker.

Now, the poll swung from being just third person in the lead, to both.

I agree with you in that shooting in third person feels no more odd than melee in third person, or even running in third person; to me it breaks the immersion. I play my melee paladin-type character in Skyrim in first person. In fact, I've always played melee characters in first person, if it's been a choice.

When I'm playing third person, such as in Mass Effect for example, I can't put myself into the character's shoes. It's always me following Shepard from behind, giving her (femshep ftw) orders. If I'm in an FPS game though, it's easy to feel like I'm actually there. That to me is what allows games like Doom 3, BioShock, Dead Space, Aliens and so on to be at least a little bit scary and unnerving. In fact, I've tried playing some of those in a dark room in the middle of the night with my headphones on, and I just can't do it for very long. Call me a softie, but first person works for me.

If they were third person, it wouldn't feel as fun, and I wouldn't be as jittery and jumpy when playing them.

I don't know who those "shooter purists" are, but that's not me, since I don't want "only first person." I want both views, because I know that both views will be required to give everyone what they want.

I can understand some people feel at home in third person. That's fine. That's why games like Skyrim for example have third person. I also understand that some people, such as myself, feel at home in first person (although the FoV needs to be adjustable, the default 60 or 75 degrees doesn't convey a natural field of vision through a monitor.)

If the choices were to disappoint 50% of the people and make one view really well, or give 100% what they want and make both views relatively well, then I vote for the latter.

Same here, and I also can't see my own vote, but I'm guessing it's what I voted before the reset; both views.

I would really need TTP to enjoy it very well I am hoping for a good story and not just a 'shooter' game I played PnP Cyberpunk 2020 for years and own all the various books /mods that every came out for it . Loved the intrigue and backstabbing not just the ability to kill ...... in fact if I could get someone else to do the killing and take the blame so much the better for me.

I do however have friends that prefer FPP so having both options would make the game appeal to more people

Both are important..I'd prefer to play in 1st casually, for immersion..but it's tough to pull out good combat in 1st person. I could live with 3rd person exclusively but I feel strongly the ability to switch between the two is both more satisfying and flexible for players.

People bring up Mass Effect as a good example..it's pretty immersive (I think because of cutscenes with your personalized character) but even if you could play part of the game in 1st person (non-combat) it would add even more to the experience, and give it a fresher feeling. Being able to switch to first person brings you much deeper into the game even if at times you need/want to switch back to 3rd.

If it really will be 3rd person only then i hope for gameplay similar to Dead Space 2 instead of crap like in mass effect.

Third person, never really get a sense of the character if I don't see him in game, that and the holding the gun before your face thing looks fucking stupid. Thought DX:HR was an allright compromise.

Naturally if I could have both and they're both quality, I'd take that. But if it were an either or scenario, I really enjoy being able to see my character/the gear they're in.

I would prefer Third Person, especially for this type of game.

..please no? Dead Space's camera angle makes me physically nauseous - in fact it was pretty big complaint amongst several players, like myself, that suffer from simulator sickness, that the cramped, uncomfortable camera view of the Dead Space series was pretty much the sort of thing that made us unable to play for longer than five minutes before it felt like our eyes were going to explode from the back-pressure of vomit trying to force its way out.

I wouldn't mind either. It's pretty much how I play Skyrim, switching between views as I please.

I would actually like something along the lines of what was done here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzYmQyHl2bc

Add in over the shoulder cam, and you have all the "necessary" perspectives.
