in-game lag

I am running XP home on a P4 2.8 GHz with 2 GB RAM and ATI X800 all-in-wonder card (256 MB RAM). The game play is extremely lag for me. I checked Gamespot's review and my system is actually fairly close to meeting recommended requirement. I have tried changing the display to 800 X 600, defragment the drive, updating to the newest ATI driver, but none helped. Is there something else I can optimize?

The vanilla X800 is rather weak (in today's environment), and the defaults that the game starts with are all HIGH. You have to reset everything to a combination of mostly Low, and a few Medium items. You should ask the Moderator to move this message where it belongs, In-game Tech (user to user tech support/advice). Yes, I know that when an X800 was still a new All-in-Wonder, it was then up near the upper end of Medium, and could run some games as if it was really High Level, like the faster X800s. But that was three years ago. Time, and gaming development, just won't stand still !
