In game lighting better with more room lights on or in darkened room?

It seems to me with more lights on in my room the game looks better, the in game lighting is more alive. The graphics seem a bit too stark and colder in atmosphere in a darkened room. Especially with ray tracing on, but I've used only ray tracing since December. I would've thought the game would look the best in a dark room but apparently not so much. Playing on a 40" 4k Samsung TV on a pc system.

The last time I played was on a PS4 Pro on a 60 inch 4K Samsung and the HDR seemed way off. I prefer to play things in a dark room so I didn't really try otherwise but maybe I should have.

Are you playing on a screen with auto-adjusting brightness based on the ambient lighting in the room?

The last time i tired playing games in a dark room...i ended up seeing spots for weeks. It also made my eyes hurt.

I dont know if its just my eyes....or i had something bad off...but i dont do that anymore.

Lights on, no matter what.
