Sounds doable.. Almost like taking a cab in GTA IV.

Pretty much, that could work, as long as the option is always there to take over the driving...

Vehicles are not needed. As long as I can ride in an AV, or get to where I am going via mass-transit, I just don't see a large benefit at this point of going to the effort of putting vehicles in the game.

Um... they are completely needed. It's a large sandbox game, in a humongous city, in a world filled with cars, trucks, bikes, etc...

Have you ever actually played Cyberpunk 2020?

Your ride can be, and often is, as important as your gun or any other piece of equipment you are carrying.

This game without vehicles would be kinda bullshit.

Besides, hey have pretty much confirmed that there will be vehicles.

1. Enter address into car. Car begins driving.

2. Prime remote detonator on the satchel of semtex.

3. Exit moving vehicle.

4. Wait for car to arrive at target destination, and trigger the remote.

5. Watch the pretty light show. Take a picture of it, and email it to your contact for proof of job completion.

Crude. Simple. Genius.
I love it.

They are indeed a fundamental part of the game. And while I don't agree with him, I do see where Whipblade is coming from. It's the Fallout/Skyrim 'fast travel' perspective, (if I am not mistaken.)

Jump in a cab or some other mode of transport, pick destination on loading screen, poof, you spawn at your destination.

Personally, I don't really want that. A big part of CP2020 for me was the tried and tested 'courier' job. We even used to play games we called 'Rat Runners Inc.' where we all started with less skills and stats and the most hightech peice of kit we could afford was a knackered sawn off or a rusty 9mm handgun. We chipped in together to afford a tatty old van and we weould do courier jobs, dodgingbullets and rockets everywhere. Much hillarity. It also promoted a do more with less attitude. (Never underestimate a man with a zippo lighter, a pocket knife and two rolls of duct tape.)
I digress... Without vehicles, these courier jobs become limited.

Vehicles could be left out and the game could still work. But having vehicles in the game would give it so much more depth and immersion. I cannot understand why Wipeblade doesn't want vehicles to be available.

Agreed. A Cyberpunk game without vehicles would not be acceptable. Vehicles are a fundamental part of the game. Just like cybernetics and weapons.

Ohh...as much as I want to play Devil's Advocate here, (Wisdom HATES that), and point out lots of my players didn't even have Drive, it was a skill used so rarely, I won't.

It's a sandbox game, transport is essential. Now, I realize you can just hire some itinerant Nomad to drive FOR you, ( what else are they good for, really?), that's not very practical on a routine basis.

It's a modern game in a big city. You are going to be travelling places in a hurry, often pursued. You are going to need to be able to run your own transport.

Witcher 3 has rideable horses, and that's CDPR's first open-world game. You can bet driveable vehicles are in CP2077 and a good thing, too.

First: Yes, I have played Cyberpunk 2020. Like, a LOT. For years.

The reason I am saying that it's not required is that I am worried how they are spreading their resources. (Particularly since they indicated they'll be doing multiplayer) Take Deus Ex for example. Also a role-playing game that is supposed to take place in a huge city. Multiple cities actually. Look at the 2nd area of Detroit, right in front of the Police Station. Do you see how wide the roads are? They're actually not big enough for real cars to drive on. I don't want Night City to look like that. I realize that this is going to be more akin to GTA or Just Cause 2, but I look at games like Deus Ex and Mass Effect that don't have vehicles (Yes, I know ME has the Mako) and they still turned out okay. Speaking of Mass Effect though: Look at Mass Effect 1. Their game had a large explorable universe and you could take the Mako all over. Was it a better game because of that? Most would argue that it wasn't. Which is why they removed it in subsequent games.

So, it's just a concern. Now, would it be a bad thing if they had vehicles in the game? No. But it's significantly different from adding horses. Getting car mechanics right, especially for multiple different vehicles isn't easy. Especially if it's your first time doing so.

Now, if they can add vehicles and do it right? Then by all means. My current Fixer's first job was stealing an NYPD sergeant's car from his house =) (He still doesn't like me.)

...what? Where?? o_O

I didn't see any official updates that confirmed multiplayer; can you provide a source?

Uh, I'd rather have dynamic co-op. What I mean is that players should be able to play as normal when invited to someone else's game, so they can help them or antagonize them, or be neutral and just scope out the scenery.

Heh. Yeah; I'm actually hoping for drop-in co-op, m'self. ;-) Hoping that PvP (if it even exists) is either voluntary, or on specific servers. "Always on" PvP, or people otherwise being able to drop in and grief people doesn't sound appealing to me at all.

This is the strongest argument that we will get vehicles in CP 2077, but I'm just warning people - don't get your hopes up and consider it confirmed until CDPR says so.

What Slim says.

In fact, as CERTAIN PEOPLE should remember, don't invest too heavily in so many things that just aren't confirmed. Yes, we'd love all these things in game. Even stuff I don't care about, I'd be thrilled to try if it was in game, or just happy because it makes fellow CP fans happy.

But really, even if CDPR said tomorrow that vehicles or cyber-organ harvesting was in-game, we should all realise that it's years to release and things can and will change.

What you can rely on is that CDPR has, so far, a perfect record in terms of good, even great games. No flawless games. Not games-for-everyone. But good and great games. What they do, they do very well.

So the odds are that even if everything you -want- isn't in Cyberpunk 2077, enough that you love will be there that you will still have a great time.
