hijack a pos, upgrade it, purchase or steal a high end vehicle, upgrade it...

Telling me I can't steal shit in a video game where I am playing a criminal, or at least living on the edge is like telling me I can't eat anything after inviting me to a buffet.

What if anti-theft measures could kill you? Especially with valuable cars. Or maybe there's electrical shock, the car shuts down, lets you you drive it while sending a tracking signal to cops, or just blows up. I hate the notion you can steal a car on a busy street with little repercussion.

Then you figure ot how to overcome those measures. We aren't playing chmucks, we are playing edgerunners, if force and cunning doesn't get us what we want, tech toys and savvy will.

This is an excellent point, and yet another reason to put points into electronic security, lockpicking, (like Suhiir!) and so forth. Hire a techie. Buy that cutting edge autolockpick gun. Of course, the more you pay for the gun, the better the security it can beat.

If you are a Netrunner, hack the car yourself with Control Remote.

I don't think you should be able to just grab any car. This isn't Grand Theft Auto. It's the role playing game, Cyberpunk.

I think you should be able to grab any car your skills and gear lets you grab! If you have the skill above a certain level, or a device that does same, it's yours! Otherwise, you get this:

Livig on the edge means sometimes you fall off, or get flamed by a security system that doubles as burger flame broiler...

Aaaand now I want a screenshot of my FCB standing in the anticarjacking flamer blast, a burger in his hand as he looks at the camera. Yes.

Give me that option, RED.

Hm.

While I like the "world is my toybox" model of Grand Theft Auto / Saints Row, I'd be on-board with reasonable response to vehicle theft in CP '77.

Firstly, unless I've bought the appropriate skills to hotwire the vehicle, I think we should have to rely on liberating some poor schmuck of their keys, or otherwise hope the driver's side / passenger side door is unlocked when they're at a light.

Getting back to your point of vehicle security: again, unless I've bought the appropriate skills to detect / disarm any security measures, I think we should have to rely on obtaining keys / grabbing a vehicle with the engine running, or hope that the vehicle doesn't have security measures. (Could be a check against a table, depending on neighborhood / niceness of car.)

I think pedestrian response is pretty good in GTA V. The out of the way neighborhoods, people just kind of look on, or run the other way. In nicer neighborhoods, people jump on their phones and call the cops. There's one 'hood (where the turf color is purple,) where, if you try jacking a car, the homies on the porch and on the sidewalk start shooting at you.

I'm of mixed feeling of police response. In both GTA and Saints Row, I feel that it's too easy to lose the cops. That is, you'd be doing things to your vehicle in both those titles that would WRECK the vehicle you're in / on in real life, which defeats the purpose of stealing it to begin with. If I take my newly "liberated" sports car offroad, at the LEAST, I'm going to bottom out the car multiple times, and thrash the suspension and bodywork, never mind jumping it 50 feet, or 25, or 10.

I'd like the opportunity to get my hands on any vehicle I see in game, and if that means I have to hustle harder than I do in GTA / Saints Row, so be it.

There was this game where when you steal a car, you would have to lose the cops first and then you would have paint the car and change the license plates. (Also, i think you would receive new paperwork with that, so the car now belong to you) Otherwise police would be after that car no matter what.. (As far as i remember, they later changed this mechanic thinking "gamers wouldn't like it") But i wouldn't be against a similar mechanic in CP77..

That would still be a problem if you stole that vehicle because you need it for a car theft mission (if you get there with the car all trashed they won't give you as much money as if it was in good condition, in fight it might explode or be very difficult to drive to destination) or if you want it for yourself but don't think you'll make it to the garage and get saved or repaired. But yes, it works for those games, but still think it would be too anodyne for CP2077. Also, the repair costs are alwasy awfully low, which is both good and bad. In a game that aims more for simulation they should respond to how much of a wreck the car is, if you just need a paintjob it's not the same that replacing all 4 tires and a new engine, etc. I'm all for making our special cars, the ones we've grown attached to, customized and equipped (and also serve as kind of a stash) be difficult to lose, maybe implement an impounding system like in GTAV, etc. something so that you can see your car all wrecked but, hey, it's safe, you can repair it when you get all the money, and it will save all the changes you've done to it so that you won't have to choose again or have it easier to do it to a new vehicle.

It is now, along with Wars and Dragonbird.

It's as if it needs approval or something.
