Inconsistency between K+M and gamepad controls when applying oils in combat

Using Keyboard and Mouse, it's possible to apply oils to Geralt's sword at any time, even during combat.
When using a gamepad, I get a message telling me that "I can't do that during a fight".

One of them should be changed I guess.

Even when using mouse and keyboard, if you try to apply oil using keyboard and not mouse, you'll get this message. So it's more then likely that one shouldn't be able to apply oils mid combat (it also makes sense, 'cause how would you do that?).

I also think it's just an oversight, but you can't really bring the 'realism' argument when you can brew a bunch of new potions and then drink them mid-combat
