infinite loading: Family Matters

Have been playing for 4 days, 3 hours according to stats. At level 12.

Went back to get on with story after doing many non-story quests (will list at end of post). After saving the horses and stable guy in the quest "Family Matters" and going to the exit door, I get a loading screen and the game never comes back. The ps4 fans kick in and it gets a bit loud, but all I see on screen in the "loading" text and spinning icon. This happens if I reload a save and repeat the sequence, even after a power down.

I can go back to an older save and do other things, but am worried this will prevent real progress.

Quests completed:Kaer Morhen, Lilac and Gooseberries, Imperial Audience, Bloody Baron, Ladies of the Wood, Ciri's Story: Fleeing the Bog, The Nilfgaardian Connection, Hunting a Witch, A Princess in Distress, Ciri's Story:The King of the Wolves, Wandering in the Dark, The Incident at White Orchard, The Beast of White Orchard, An Invitation from Keira Metx, Wild at Heart, Of Dairy and Darkness, The Fall of the House of Reardon, Ciri's Room, Ghost of the Past, Death By Fire, The Whispering Hillock, Magic Lamp, A Dog's Life, A Barnful of Trouble, Bitter Harvest, Funeral Pyres, Gwent: Velen Players, The Truth is in the Stars, A Favor for a Friend, For the Advancement of Learning, A Towerful of Mice, A Greedy God, Gwent: Big City Players, Gwent: Playing Innkeeps, Little Red, A Walk on the Waterfront, Twister Firestarter, Missing in Action, Precious Cargo, On Death's Bed, A Frying Pan Spick and Span

Seems I was eager to continue at any cost -
letting them burn and going straight to confront the Baron allowed the story to progress without infinite loading screen woes.

Incidentally, after dealing with the Baron's burried problem, I checked the barn to see what devastation I had allowed to occur, but there were 10 horses inside, mostly all clipping through each other - 3 on top of each other is a record so far! There were plenty of peasants there, too.
