Installing Phantom Liberty with GOG install files

+
Hello,

GOG GALAXY doesn't have a native Mac build, so I downloaded the actual game install files and installed Cyberpunk manually.

The game installed fine and the Phantom Liberty DLC installer *claims* it also installed fine, but I don't see it in the game… The main menu at least still has the DLC ad banner, which I assume means that it has not been installed?

The installer asks to select a folder without further explanation. I first chose the installer folder, but then it installed some game files in there, so clearly it wasn't right. I launched the installer again and this time selected the main Cyberpunk folder under Applications. The folders/files it installs at least match with the ones in the Cyberpunk folder, so I assume this is the right place?

Or will the DLC only appear inside the game once I'm far enough perhaps?

Thanks,
Stakker

Hi,
In theory, if the expansion is installed correctly, the tittle in the main menu must change (it have the Phantom Liberty mention on it).
And if you start a new game, you should have an option to start directly on Phantom Liberty starting point (you skip en entire beginning of the game).
So you don't have any of this?
And well, if you don't, there is likely an issue with the installation of the expansion :(

Damn… I hope there were instructions somewhere, the installer didn't come with any :(

Thanks for the info!

Ahh, I studied the contents of the Cyberpunk folder and figured it out :)

When the DLC installer asks you to choose a folder, choose Applications. Not the Cyberpunk folder under it.

Maybe this will help somebody else too :)

The GOG version should include the native Mac version. It's officially supported, and should install normally.

If you bought it a while back, I'd recommend re-downloading the installation package, just to ensure all the necessary files are there. As long as your on MacOS X v15.5 or later, you shouldn't need to do anything weird to get it to install.

If re-downloading/reinstalling does not work for any reason, contact CDPR Support directly. I'd also ensure you do a CLEAN installation, though I have no idea what that would look like on Mac. Here are the steps for PC, just to give you an idea. Ensure all of the games files are completely removed from the system.

I could be wrong, but I think it's "normal". When installing the expansion, when the installer ask you where to install it, you simply have to choose the folder in which the game is installed (Application folder by default I suppose), not the game folder itself.
The only real "issue" I guess, is that there is no "Read Me" or "How to install" included with it ;)

Gog galaxy does have the mac build, I've installed it this way. Galaxy itself was updated recently, so maybe it needs to be the newest version, though.

Whether downloading Galaxy or the offline installation package, it should install everything included in the right place (...barring a user choosing a manual installation path and making a typo or something.)

If the game was installed completely on the correct MacOS version, and parts of it seem not to be recognized, definitely send that into CDPR Support.

Just be sure to clarify the following:

1.) Exactly which version of the game was purchased and when?

2.) The complete installation path, especially if outside of ~/Library/Application Support/ .

3.) The game version displayed on the main menu. It's usually in the lower left corner.

4.) Brief description of what is happening / not happening / showing / not showing up.

I can't offer too much in terms of direct support, as I haven't used a Mac in over 10 years. But we can rule a few things out:
  • Players should not need to do anything special to get the installation package to install and be recognized correctly on their system.
  • If players originally moved an installation from a hybrid system (Win+Mac dual-boot or something similar) it may require a full re-installation.
  • If players installed outside of the Macintosh default installation folder, it could be causing issues. Mac security is very insistent.
  • If players purchased an earlier version from GOG / Steam / etc, they should have received the free update, but that would require the newer version to be completely re-downloaded, especially if using the manual installation files.
  • If using any sort of modded installation or modded saved game file, there will almost definitely be issues with the latest Mac version. (This is true of any update on any platform, but issues are all but guaranteed if switching OS versions.)
Aside from that, it should be working. If it's not, then it's definitely CDPR Support time.

Nope I guess it doesn't ;)

Like most of Mac App, installers always ask where you want to install your app. By default it's on the Application folder, but you always have the option to change (and most often, ask you your admin password if there is file which will be installed in a "sensitive" place.

The only problem here, it's because there is two separate installers for the game and the expansion, and there is no explanation how installing them.
So after installing successfully (in this case, everything was fine, the game worked fine), the installer for expansion asked which folder to install it. I bet I would have made the same mistake and choose the game folder... And well, it doesn't work. You have to choose the same folder as the game (if you selected Application folder, you have to choose Application folder for the expansion).

Anyway, once the "right" folder selected, the game and the expansion work fine :

1 - I will have to check myself to be sure, but offline installers for Windows and Mac aren't the same, So it's mandatroy the 2.3 version.
2 - It is outside of ~/Library/Application Support/ because this folder correspond to the AppData folder on Windows and "int theory" only contain folders and files created by the applications themself. The path is rather easy here : "Macintosh HD"/Applications
3 - Well, 2.3 for sure. No way to install another version on Mac :)

Exactly what I'm referring to. I can remember a fair few instances where installing something anywhere other than where MacOS defaulted it caused problems. I think the more intensive the program, the more Mac security features want every file where they expect it to be. (Kind of the opposite of Windows, where installing in protected directories can sometimes introduce issues because of the Windows security features, so installing elsewhere bypasses all of it and just lets the program run. [Though, I've found this to be less of an issue overall from Win10 onwards.])

But one thing to definitely try is installing to the default location and seeing if that affects anything. Changing that will be a user-end issue. (Should still be able to figure it out or at least why it's causing an issue, but that sort of thing means the installer is technically working correctly.)

If anyone installed the game according to the installer's defaults, and it's failing to recognize the expansion, that would definitely be something CDPR Support would need to know about.

And, yes, a readme file would probably be a good idea.

Yes, or just a little line added in the Phantom Liberty installer window. Something like "please, select the same folder as the game, not the game folder itself". Just that and it would be fine.
If there is nothing, if you install a DLC or an expansion for a game, and if you have to select a location (without any further info), I guess the first thing which would come in mind would be the game folder, right?

Anyway, I'm currently doawnloading both installers to check that by myself :)
I also installed GOG Galaxy 2.0 and it seems to work fine... Not sure why I thought it will no longer be supported on Mac (But I'm sure I saw/read it somewhere and didn't bother because well, you still can download the offline installers from the website^^).

Thanks evertybody :) As LeKill3rFou said, the only problem was that the DLC installer popped up a file dialog without explaining what it wants.

Usually on Mac, you either just drag the application where you want (Applications folder being the recommended place), or there is an installer that wants to install into a specific place (Windows-style). This is the first time I've seen a Mac installer that prompts a file dialog without any install location selected (it simply defaulted to the folder there the installer is). And no explanation either.

GOG works, but it's built for Intel, and I don't want to install Rosetta on my brand new Mac. It will be deprecated very soon anyway.
