Installing without disc2

Hi all, did a search and don't believe I saw a question specifically about this.
I've just bought a new rig and want to install my copy of Witcher 2, I've got my cd key and disc 1 but have completely misplaced the second cd. Is there a way to install the game without the second disc and without having to buy a new copy? Many thanks for any suggestions

Unless you happen to be Russian and can therefore activate the game on Steam, you can't. How would you with parts of the data missing?

You could try contacting the support - they're trying to help as much as possible, maybe you can get a replacement if you have proof of purchase... I wouldn't count on it though.

Edit: If you happen to have your old rig with TW2 installed, you could try copying the The Witcher 2 folder to your new PC and add the needed registry entries, by running the tool provided under #19.

Ahh thought it might be a long shot. Yeah your right, no idea how I'd get the missing data parts, I think with everything being digital these days I was hoping there was a second option and way of installing the game, provided you had a valid cd key.
Support are probably busy enough already without helping a berk who can't keep hold of his own cds, I'll ask my brother to send me his cd, although a few days wait for the postman when I'm dying to play this will be quite painful :'(

You could ask him to copy the files from the disc and send them to you digitally, so that he doesn't need to send you the disc. Might be faster than via post, too - plus, you wouldn't bother the poor postman who probably is busy enough without helping a berk who can't keep hold of his own cds.
You know, just suggesting probable optimizations for your plan. :)

Could you not Torrent the second cd?

noteL I know nothing of the legalities involved with this but morally and ethically you would be in the clear as an owner of the game. Afterall you don't just buy the discs but you also essentially buy the right to play the game.

You buy the right to play the copy of the game that you received on the discs. Not the right to play some cracked copy. That just gives aid and comfort to pirates.

Just read the terms and conditions and at least where I live you are wrong. For example I could install using my mates cd's and my cd key and it is still legal where I live. There is no connection between the right (which is a contract that allows you to play the game) and the discs from a legal perspective at least in my country. Not sure how the terms and conditions are written else where. Nor do I pirate anything ever.

ps: I never mentioned anything about a cracked copy, just suggested a way of obtaining the second disc and clearly said I had no idea of obtaining it in that way was legal but given the circumstances the developer and publisher would have to be very low to attack such a person.

There is all the difference in the world between the original of a copyrighted work and an unauthorized derivative work. Any torrent of the game is an unauthorized derivative work unless the copyright holder put it there himself. Nothing in your license to the game entitles you to use that torrent, because it is not the work you hold a license to use, but something that is different and illegitimate.

Advocating use of unauthorized torrents for any purpose gives aid and comfort to pirates, by creating or reinforcing the false belief that any of their activities are legitimate.

[moderator] There will be NO advocating of piracy neither here or anywhere else in the forum
