Interesting Stuff In w2strings File

So I was browsing the decoded w2strings file and found remnants of another memory sequence. Apparently Geralt was going to have this one when running into Sile:

Do we know each other…?

We last met a year ago, near Birke.

Since you don't remember, it matters not…

I remember you…

Let us meet once more. Síle de Tansarville, mistress of magic.

Thanedd. A turning point in history. The Council and Conclave ceased to exist. Mages lost their posts as advisors to monarchs... There was bloodshed. Who were the heroes and who the traitors - that remains unknown to this day.
Mages and sorceresses, beautiful, educated, enduring and powerful. I remember the smiles, all insincere. The masks of courtesy concealing disdain, hatred and greed…
The air was thick with intrigue. Political assassinations, secret deals, coups, master spies and petty informers. All doused in the juice of Zerrikanian lemons, brought in fresh through a teleport…
And a woman in black and white. The scent of elderberry and gooseberry.
Yennefer... Yen.
They envied me. Ordinary human envy.

At Loredo's, I had a memory flash…
When I saw you, I had a strange vision. Perhaps a memory…

You were in my vision. Sitting at a mirror…

And what happened next?

A banquet. Mages… Sorceresses… A sense of danger… defeat… And a woman named… Yennefer…

That's no vision, but a memory of a dream. Mirrors and blood - symbolism typical of nightmares.

Who's Yennefer?

A sorceress. A spy for the Black Ones in those times, or so they say. But at Thanedd, everyone feared each other, was suspicious. Thus the massacre. I don't know what happened to her afterwards.

You were there...

No. I have no interest in politics.

Why did seeing Sile bring back Yennefer? What is the connection between Sile and me? I need to remember.

Triss knows the answer. Enough of this playing cat and mouse. I need to choose a moment and press her, before she squirms her way out again.

Vizima I remember well, living with Triss, too… It's the distant past that's the problem.

Great stuff

Do you know how to get to this in game? I don't think i saw that (and I tried almost everything during conversation with Sheala)

It's just leftover stuff from earlier in development. I've also extracted the audio files for dialogue and gone through them, and this stuff wasn't recorded. Not in English anyways.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about this is the mention of Geralt meeting Sheala (can't get used to the other spelling, sorry) a year before TW2.

It seems like they were originally going to have her being more involved with the Wild Hunt subplot. Birke is the spring equinox in Witcher-land, and the Hunt is associated with such dates. Also, Geralt would have still been a rider at that time, as TW1 takes place about ~6 months before TW2. Sheala/S

This is not true :D (that is the reason, why that wasn't released :D )

But it's quite interesting how someone with amnesia, who don't even remember his biggest love, surely knows, who lies and who not. He doesn't remember much, but he knows what Triss could remember ;) ..

I am glad this wasn't in game (I mean just those last paragraphs).

Well, it was cut for a reason. i guess only readers could really understand that memory flashback, non-readers would be rather confused by it.

But they cut a scene with Yennefer, not amused i am :p

Interesting memory sequence, thanks for sharing! :)

So if I understood correctly, these two sentences: “Enough of this playing cat and mouse. I need to choose a moment and press her, before she squirms her way out again.” refer to Triss as well? Wow, I am also glad that part wasn’t in the game. But since it's a leftover stuff from earlier in development, I guess at first the Devs were planning to go the same way as in the first game, they wanted to make Triss a more ambiguous, intriguer sorceress (like she was in TW1) but during development they changed their plains for some unknown reason.

On the other hand, this memory sequence about Thanedd and Yennefer would have been very interesting, it’s a pity they cut it out. But I agree with Kallelinski, maybe it was because non-readers wouldn’t understand that part.

But...Geralt already knew about Yennefer from Triss.

To be fair, though, Triss does hide a lot from Geralt over the course of both TW1 and TW2 (for example, S

But what does he know? He asked to tell him, but we don´t know if she told the truth, or how much. I don´t see her telling Geralt Yenn was his true love, her best friend, and she´s been taking advantage of his amnesia. Yet that´s what it is.

Yeah, in the final version of the game he does, but this is obviously from an earlier one where he didn't.

He does not learn about Yen's existence from Triss. He has a flashback when he is interrogated by Roche, and later, on their way to Flotsam, asks Triss to tell him everything about Yen. Evidently, Triss told him something but not all. For example, she did not tell him that Yen was in Nilfgaard. Sile knew it and told Grealt if he saves her from a teleport, and I don't see any reasons to believe that Triss did not know. It was not such a big of a secret, and probably all Lodge members knew about Yen's whereabouts.

If Dandelion's narration is accurate in detail, Triss described Geralt's and Yennefer's relationship as "toxic", or maybe it was just Dandelion who saw it that way. It's an unfair characterization of a complex relationship and the sort of language I would expect somebody whose intent was to undermine that relationship would use.

Triss's half-truths, withheld information, and unusual promises speak to me of someone who has grown confident in her control of Geralt, more so than someone who is seeking a genuine relationship with him. In this sense, her offer to drop everything and help him find Yennefer is interesting. It is largely sincere. She really does want to do this, and she wants to keep Geralt company on the way. But it also means she is confident in her ability to keep Geralt from re-forming his relationship with Yennefer.

That's an assumption. The game provides no evidence either way as to whether Triss knew that.

Yes. If. And I'd say it's a big "if", given how prone he is to stuff like playing up his own importance.

Sure, but it is not a baseless one.

I regret that this conversation with Sile and a flashback were cut-off from the game. They were quite revealing, and a flashback about Thanedd is good. Though it would be the earliest flash-back, from about 8 years ago, right before the start of the Second War. Other flashbacks are from 5 years ago (death in Rivia), and of events happened later.

Maybe or maybe not

We know Letho knew and he might've told Sile and Philippa but a lot of the other Lodge members might not have including Triss who was kept in the dark most of the time.

Hah, no. Letho was pretending to be a stupid brute, good only for killings. Revealing anything pertaining to his dealings with Nilfgaardians, or his travelings with Yen, would be out of the question. It was the point - nobody should have known about his connection to Nilfgaard, and revealing that Yen was in Nilfgaard would have raised a lot of questions- how she got there, how a hell he knows, and such. Also, what would be the point of telling them anything?
