That game , even still today, has the best first person melee combat ever. I seriously recommend anyone that likes melee sword combat to play that game.

I'm hoping that the game gets a sequel/prequel sometime in the future :)

Uhh, so no volumetric mist means, we wont see that burning smoke vilage effect in the final release?

Volumetric Mist has nothing to do with Forward Soft Lit Particles - aka the effect that makes the burning village scene look so great. Whether FSLP is still in the game or not, we have no idea.

:wat:
Smoke has nothing to do with it. It just means there won't be Volumetric fog, instead it'll have the regular fog effects. Volumetric effects are often *ridiculously* expensive, I suspected it would have to be toned down at the very least when it was mentioned.

The difference is of the technology used to create the fog in this case:

Regular fog in games is often multiple 2D alpha layers of varying translucency
Pros - Fast/cheap, okay looking.
Cons - Simple 2D layer, goes through other objects.

Volumetric - Fog is rendered in 3D, scatters light in a different way(makes sources appear hazy)
Pros - Looks great. *
Cons - EXPENSIVE *since 3D fog has to behave according to all the objects present in the environment=more calculations(depending upon method used)
[This is obviously based on what I know, not guaranteed to be correct]

EDIT: Here you go, this is written by Bart Wronski, he worked on both Witcher 2 and Assassin's Creed IV

after unlocking the skill it needs to be activated. You do that by putting it into separate tree, which contains a limited number of slots (it will increase with character's progress). Activated skills affects Geralt's fighting style
One more question Shavod... It says here activating different skills will affect the fighting style. Do you know if they'll affect it only in terms of attribute (e.x. geralt deals more damage , geralts absorbs less etc etc..) or the skills will affect even Geralt's stance. The way he moves, the speed. For example for a certain skill activated he fights like in Cat mode where his stance changes from that in wolf mode.

@serxho92

From what they said, it looks like yes, Geralt moves a little differently depending on what kind of skills you activated or depending on what kind of weapon you holding.

The only 2 things that don''t sound fun to me so far.. is Geralt getting swords that can break and Geralt being slowed down by weighty armor kinda sucks, but if I can maybe find some rare runes that can make his swords indestructible, or a rune for his armors that makes them feather light to increase Geralts combat speed and movment in general. That might be cool/good enough ;)

It is ok to be slower with weighty armor. You can either favour light armor and agile combat style or little bit more tanky one. I think it is nice touch in way that you can choose what armor to wear according your combat style. Not just what has strongest stats.

Sure aslong as Geralt doesn't wear a full plate set I'm ok with heavier and lighter armor

FINE! Edit:
---
Q: Another cup of coffee?
A: Yes, please.
Q: Is it good?
A: It's a damn fine cup of coffee.
Q: Explain the skills and armors then.
A: Okay. Activated skills determine tactics. You choose (activate) some of them and you have resources to manage (stamina and adrenaline), so behaviour in combat depends on skill choices. In other words, to use your build properly, you cast signs, parry, dodge and hit with you sword more or less frequently. Some skills grant additional signs modes or special blows.

There are 3 types of armor elements: light, medium and heavy. Protection they grant is less important than synergy with combat tactics they are designed for. For example heavy armor favors agressive swordfighting. But you can mix armor elements to balance bonuses they offer.

If you like to twieak and customize, you'll find it attractive, I think.

the game mechanics is getting soo deeper than i thought. You are best dev team in the world.

I am new here. And my English is not good. But i want ask some questions about animation of Geralt. Please move this questions to proper thread.

For example, while Geralt ride a horse he did not move his legs and arms in last 15 min. video. But in debut and vgx trailer he moved his arms and legs while rided a horse. Is this still in game or did you cancel it? Second example; Geralts hair do not cast shadows to his face in last video. But in e3 and other videos hair casted shadows.

Sorry. I know this is not right place for this questions. Again. You are best team )))))))

Looks like something totally unseen in rpg game. Does their element(heavy/light..) changes the speed of your moves or is it entirely reliant on activated skills?

Anyway. It might get get really good if it is well balanced and thanks for answer.

Oh man, now this and the other things announced in that interview are the real deal of realisticness, at least as important as graphics imo (though I sure do hope that graphics can be exploited to the max on PC ~ words from the team and interviews have been confusing in that regard so far).

I asked this in another thread and it may've been answered somewhere that I'm not aware of already, but since there's REDs watching, can the player hotkey a certain amount of custom skillsetups so as not to need to individually activate stuff all the time?
