This, Most likely a case of tired devs and them calling the map different things (be it because they're used to it or something like that).

Well I think they've classed Novigrad as its own 'Region' because it's so different from NML or Skellige, and it's a fairly massive area considering it'll probably be the City + the surrounding farms and immediate area.
Like compare that ride into Novigrad, the outside area, the overall look of it, flora, fauna etc, it was extremely different to what we saw in the Swamp area of NML and probably looks quite different to most areas throughout NML in general.

I'd say that's why they labeled it as its own 'Region', not because it was going to have its entire own map and area that was as big as NML/Skellige, but because the 3 areas are all very distinctly different "Ecosystems".

^ Exactly, I even recall a dev interview where they said pretty much the same thing, don't remember which one it was though.

Another hint on how the two zones compare to each other in terms of size:

http://youtu.be/QTzMelOeKEw?t=50s

Basically, Skellige is about as big as the map we saw in the demo minus the actual city of Novigrad.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they say that just Skellige island(s) is the size of Witcher 2? So if NML and Skellige are roughly the same size that would be 2x, maybe 3x W2. Even with Novigrad, I can't see what would be W3 35 times bigger than W2...

If I recall correctly just one of the islands from the Skellige archipelago was the size of W2, and they didn't specify which one. There are six islands in total, ranging from small to big, the biggest being Ard Skellig.

What Kinley said, and it was actually that one island was considered larger than the whole of Witcher 2.

In the interview he is referring to hub as a 'regional style'. I think from the view of the working map (with the clusters of locations and quest groups) that there are many "sub-hubs" within each region (what I would describe as a hub) and many different types of region (e.g. the Civilised (if dangerous) Novigrad and Oxenfurt ~ probably including White Bridge... the type of random encounters, quests etc are likely to be very different in these regions, than in NML south of the river... here we have no over-arching protection, and local communities making the best they can of a bad situation. Monsters, bandits, swamp and forest... the Army camp of the Nilfgaard van etc. (which may itself constitute a new 'flavour'/region.

Over in Skellig we have a strongly Norse flavour. Longships, ice, rugged terrain, water and rock... the monsters and quests will be different in flavour from the Novigrad or NML 'grand-hub', even if individual local tasks may be broadly similar (because ultimately people are people and have similar needs and problems... even where the details change and the 'weight' of each may vary.

I wouldn't call it "negligible". Plus it would fit if we take the GDC slides into account (the actual city accounting for that 0.5 x 0.5 difference between the maps).

Careful with comparing sizes by 'just the marginal' amount.

8x8km and 8.5x8.5km vary by a size equivalent to 8.25x1km, or 2.78x2.78km... rather than by 0.5x0.5km

Yeah, which is why I said it isn't that big lol.

Doesn't really matter though. I accept the 8.5 x 8.5 means NML + Novi. I just wasn't sure what they are calling what now..

Most likely a reference to Richard von Krafft-Ebing.

Judging by the name, I suppose he's a Nilfgaardian noble from the homonymous province.

I loved his performance as Dethmold, so I'm glad he might return for more.

Don't know if anyone posted this yet:

Seems like Jesse Cox has been at CDProjektRED again. Can we expect another video like the one he did for Witcher 2?

Actually this happened in the US. He had dinner with Monnier and a bunch of people in charge with US PR/marketing, Angry Joe was there too. I think it had something to do with some event regarding Gamestop.

I agree. A few err, wonky questions in that - I did find it interesting on the mention of not necessarily being spoon-fed monsters' whereabouts during hunts etc. Apparently you can lose them while tracking/hunting them, and have to relocate/re-hunt them. Sounds like an interesting prospect. In theory at least.
