Inventory systems

I have to admit I like the more realistic weight based inventories over the "Fun Factor" of being able to collect 50 sets of platemail and 10 horses in my backpack. But I feel like games are really pandering more and more to the bottomless shopping cart type inventories. I was looking at one other game recently and saw this feature they were touting as a new Great idea. You could make out gear swapping macros so if you wanted to jump between a mage and a warrior during combat all you did was hit a button and voil

if you played the first TW you will see that the inventory is not a bottomless pit and there are no horses to ride its all done on foot. Its still veary early to tell what kind of Inventory there going to use but I'm hope they keep it the way it was in the first one.

They did explicitly say you could hold more stuff in TW2. How far they will be going with this remains to be seen... I am a little torn. on the one hand, they are adding more types of loot, so having to drop something in order to fit in something else due to excessively restrictive inventory size would suck, but on the other hand, carrying around an entire arsenal plus assorted odds and ends is unrealistic.

I may be in the minority here but I liked the first one (in EE). I know it was frustrating when I had to make some room for the things I wanted but it was fine, it prevented from scrolling that bottomless pit of trash I carry in most games. All I had in my pack was potions, booze, some valuables maybe, scrolls and few random items. And that's that. Its perfect imo.As for W2 I want and endorse a finite inventory system. Obtaining money should be done by other means that to play a vendor, a mobile salesman. I DO NOT want to run around picking stuff up and run back again to the city to sell the crap...Means to earn money - monster contracts, it's Geralt's proffesion that earns him money, right? And there its the gambling and fighting (for sport). Its more that enough I think. Its reasonable and fun. Never had a problem with shortage of coins.Gifts, some essential materials like alchemy ingredients, weapon upgrades and materials, some booze and scrolls/books, period.Maybe add some other games or gambling ideas, say chicken fights or snail races, darts (knives throwing?), three cups or robbing the rich, sorry. It would be a good thing to educate gamers too. W2 its not like any other game, even in a tiny aspect as inventory. Its limited space where you store or carry your possesions. Choose wisely what you need to take on the journey.

In W1 the bottomless pit of inventory was still available but you couldn't carry it with you, it had to be stored at the inn. It was a complete surprise for me when the innkeeper got killed at one point and therefore this inventory became inaccessible. Just before a huge battle as well. A very nice touch by the game designers. If there's uprising / war going on then you really should carry your valuables with you (as much as you CAN carry, ditch the rest). I hope something similar returns for W2.

Word of advice: If you value your life more than your belongings, don't carry your valuables with you in a warzone....j/k

I wasn't around the forum for sometime and I only remember that they told there's gonna be more items/armor etc. to choose from. If they told the inventory space will be bigger I'm glad. Because I don't like it when there is a needed item and I remember I had it stored at the inn and I had to travel to the inn just for that. Also it's not comfortable for me to toss stuff to gain space in the inventory when I'm in the middle of a big loot (crypts, salamandra bases for instance). I didn't feel comfortable in my first play because I didn't know which stuff sells well or if I needed those items later or whether gonna have to beg for money in the streets if I throw stuff instead of selling them. The most important thing in a game is story methinks and it should have a nice flow. If I have to check back in inns every now and then it gets repetitive and boring. Actually I played Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and Frozen Throne main campaigns cheating all over just to feel the story. So, if TW2 has a big inventory I wouldn't mind. I'm just a casual gamer playing for fun not for realism in everything. I know some of you hardcore gamer guys/girls want to strangle me right now for not showing the proper respect to the games but that's just my opinion.

Of course the bigger the inventory, the better. Realistically speaking, how many hellhound skulls or gravier skulls do you expect a guy to be lugging around? 2-3 at max. I doubt any "realistic" inventory game limits the player so much. As such, these so called "realistic " inventories are not realistic at all. So why demand a pseudo-realistic inventory in the name of realism? It's either realistic (which it never is), or it is not(which it always is, to varying degrees of restriction)I prefer bottomless inventory any day. If you have trouble visualizing it, think of it as a pocket dimension you carry around. You chuck anything you find into this void and retrieve it when you want. If you believe in "the conjunction of the spheres" or the existence of "the wild hunt", you might as well believe in this.

It would be nice if alchemy sack would be limitless...Also more categories like: weapons inventory, armor inv., potion inv. and more detailed quest item inv.I don't know... we shall see what we shall see...

I'll like having a place for monster trophies again, instead of them sinking into the magical bag. Other than that i hope that the different equipment slots don't mean we'd be running around in mix and match clothing for the sake of stats (like Dragon Age for instance), but it'd be unified under a common theme (Mass Effect 2, Assassin's Creed 2).

Not to mention having all that alcohol/potions on you. You'd think those bottles/vials would break during a fight and what not ;)

You have to have a registered copy of POCKET GALAXY. If your copy is not yet registered, you can go through an incredibly frustrating registration process and you will get your upgrade to POCKET DIMENSION. The upgrade will have millions of problems and bugs, and wouldn't work for many people anyway, and take another decade to complete installing if it does install at all. After installing, it might still have issues (for non-magical folk). But I'm sure you'll like the final product. If you want a complete copy of POCKET GALAXY+POCKET DIMENSION upgrade you can buy it at your nearest Arcane Store for 100 orens. Of course it might not always be available, and you might have to order it at the store and wait for a decade before it shows up, but eventually, you'll get it.Streamline snag-free process. No?

I personally like TW1 inventory system just fine. It was hardly a bottomless pit, and its funny people complain about stocking up and reselling when you don't have to do that in the first place. Its optional in TW1. Besides, selling some of your belongings is entirely realistic, as long as your aren't toting 10 suits of armor and 5 swords with you. Inventory also greatly affects gameplay and strategy. I personally needed many slots for herbs and potions. Without them, I would have spent too much time picking and buying and less time getting on with the story. TW1 made you think about what was necessary to carry and what to leave behind - that is why its called managing your inventory.

Guessing you havent seen the inventory system yet? it is REMARKABLE........ limited space multiple of single items collections allowed not sure the limit, crafting screen of weapons no more blacksmith needed, rune the sword yourself.Crafting swords dependant on parts collected, blade type hilts etc...... Potion creation still going through a few bugs but overall is alot more interesting convenient and the endless possibilities of experimentation, then theres the armor, each piece of clothing is seperated, equip each part indiviually much like diablo..... and the new items for collection IMMENSE!!!!!!!what else can be said about this revolutionary Game with a whole new scope to the engines used........ i see a future of HIGHLY impressive games on the forefront......2 words.....EPIC.........WIN!!!!!and yes every post i write from this day forward will contain the words.....When is it out!

For the record, I spoke earlier only about components and baubles. I'm against being able to carry around too many weapons or more than 2 suits of armor.

I hope Geralt has all the money the king gave him at the end of TW1, if he does we don’t need anything in TW2.
