And the purpose of getting caught was? You'll have to refresh my memory, I read the books years ago.

In any case, she gambled and got caught. Triss gambled and only lost a few fingernails which she can regrow in a week. But she could have been tortured and burnt at the stake. The notion that one of those acts of sacrifice is somehow bigger, because it ends with more bruises doesn't sit we me when both women risked their lives to help someone they cared about deeply.

I think the reason why Yen's sacrifice seems bigger is because at that time Triss didn't do anything. She was just sitting on her arse, being useless and hoping that somehow everything would turn out fine.

I agree. Yennefer acted and tried to save Ciri, and dared to oppose Philippa and The Lodge, something Triss didn't dare to do. And the Lodge had some serious shit planned for Ciri.

Yeah,it always bothered me,that Triss was ok with marrying Ciri off to some prince and becoming Lodge's puppet

Not exactly, book triss was a coward until the very end but during the massacre in Rivia she start becoming morel ike the game Triss, she refuse to abandon Geralt and decide to confront the angry mob even if yennefer herself is frightened and want to teleport herself far away without thinking about Geralt.

Hey, it's the other way around! Triss is scared and is considering leaving. Yennefer is the one who goes right into the fightning.

'Let's go … Yenna … Run!'

I've already heard that voice, Yennefer thought. From those lips that look wooded, without a droplet of saliva to wet them. from those lips that is paralysed with terror and shakes with panic. I've already heard that voice. On the Hill at Sodden.

When I was dying in fear.

Now she is dying in fear. Until the end of my days I'm going to be scared to death. Because those who do not break the cowardice, will be scared to death until the end of their days.

The fingers that Triss dug into her arm were like steel, Yennefer liberated herself from the grip with a great effort.

'Run if you want!' she shouted. 'Hide under the skirts of the Lodge! I have to nothing left to defend! I will not leave Ciri alone! Or Geralt! Begone! Get out of my way if you appreciate your skin!'

Yeah, but you should probably mention that Yennefer had been seriously wounded just before that, and was lying on the ground bleeding with the mob approaching. She wasn't capable of defending herself at that moment. So, she asks Triss to teleport them. But, of course, Triss stands her ground and together they perform a spell that disperses the crowd.

Yennefer is not a coward because of that. And it is only Yen calling Triss out, that made Triss show bravery and help her.

And if you were referring to that scene you shouldn't have claimed that Yen was "frightened and want to teleport herself far away without thinking about Geralt". Because as I showed, it was the other way around.

How are people still using Triss from the books as a point of reference here? Like, how does that make any sense?

Yeah I didn't intend to say that she was a coward, sorry if you understood it otherwise. Just that Triss also had her fifteen minutes of fame in the book.

Because everything that happened to the characters in the books is also what happened to the characters in the game. Why wouldn't you use it as a reference?

True, but for me it was overshadowed by Yen, Ciri and Geralt. CDP HAS done a better job with her (tho something could have been better in TW2) Tho I wish they would have gave her a more lore friendly look. The changes they made to her look just feel like they did it so she was sexy.

More so with Roche also talking about the massacre of Rivia in TW2.

Yeah, I understand. I don't really think that Triss was a coward. It is strongly hinted at that Triss has post-traumatic stress disorder, in the books, after the Battle of Sodden. That is why she hesitates in Rivia. And also why she feels guilty for not joining the war again, as she explains to Mother Nenneke earlier in the book. But, I agree, it is a nice and redeemable moment for Triss, when she finally shows courage. I liked that.

Because that character doesn't exist any more. She moved on. She grew.

Yeah, she moved on and grew. But, it is still the same character with the same past.

Yes,she grew, but that doesn't mean that her past actions(or rather inactions) never happened

And the point of cherry picking and dissecting specific instances from a character's past is? To look at a character like that is a disservice to the character and the people behind it.
