Is it true open-world or psuedo open-world?

I had some good laugh through facepalming reading how people are disappointed and how Reds lied about seamless open world based on absolutely literal interpretation of extremely vague statement of some german previewer before conducting any further research.

Only recommended to read if your faith in humanity cannot decrease any more.
Jesus Christ, they talked about the goddamn game for months and they didn't even catch on what was explicitly explained since the very first announce.

Also, apparently if it's not one seamless landscape like Skyrim THEN it has to be fragmented in the same way of Dragon Age. "Half measures, how do they work?"
Not that there would necessarily be anything wrong with it, either.
Having fragmented areas is really the last (and least relevant) of many design problems in DA:I.

You start shaking your head once you read a post trying to explain that the game is basically 2 huge open worlds and that it's because of the distance of the regions and that there is no other loading screen whatsoever and directly under this very post you read "well if it's no open world and has lots of loading screens that would be horrible. Preorder cancelled" and if you hear this one guy arguing about the open world "not having ANY loading screens" just for him to ignore the response that says "but hey, Skyrim which you named as an example has loading screens for every interior".

Lolz.

Which trailer was it that said "multi region open world" again? The E3 2013 trailer?

Yeah, it's not one world with no loading times, rather it's 3-5 separate areas with loading times in between. These loading times are there in order to signify travel time. Because the areas are far away from one another. Not because the tech is somehow incapable of delivering a "no loading screens" experience. In other words it's a conscious design decision.

Personally I'd much rather see a cutsceene of Geralt on a boat heading for the nearest land, than travel ~50 nautical miles in literally 1 minute. It's really that simple.

I agree. I've said it once, I'll say it again - I prefer a multi-region open world for a story-focused game. I don't understand why some people obsess with having one map\region, even if it means that you can have warring cities be a five-minute horse ride from one another. Their goal, no matter what, is to have just one map, geographical considerations be damned.

You either limit the story by confining it to one area (bye bye Skellige storyline), or you sacrifice the immersion immensely by squeezing gigantic distances into a few minutes travel (Hey, is that Kaer Trolde outside my Oxenfurt window? Hi Crach!).

Look, I know bashing NeoGAF is the fashionable national sport, even to some high-profile members, and I also realize one is not allowed to stand by, pardon, my mistake, to discuss NeoGAF itself, but, for goodness sake, do try to show the bare minimum of impartiality, will you? Because it would be so easy to misrepresent, to make derogatory generalizations about The official Witcher forums based off on a few cherry-picked out in left field remarks while ignoring the mass of fair-minded posts.

Check the NeoGAF thread. Numerous reasonable, sensible and didactic posts. Newsflash, as a general rule, NeoGAF has always been supportive of TW3, at times more supportive than the official forum itself.

I am done with this thread.

I can't speak for others - I myself usually skim through some of GAF's discussions. I don't have a problem with the forum as a whole, no more than I do with BSN or TW boards. There are users I like and users I dislike, threads I enjoy and threads I (try to) avoid. No argument that generalization is unfair and cherry-picking can help you paint any picture.

My post - and I'm going to guess that those of others who didn't simply dismiss it as "Well, that's GAF for you" - wasn't addressing the site as a whole, only those in that specific thread who were surprised and upset. I'm well aware that actually most people in that thread aren't fazed and stay level-headed. I think\hope most people here realize that, too.

As usual, it's the angry minority that easily catches the attention.

I apologize if I offended somehow with inappropriate mocking, it wasn't my plan to add fuel to the GAF bashing fire, but in my defence I had posted the link BEFORE any reasonable voices appeared in that thread. :innocent:

Peace.
.

Look, the whole thread is filled of people who don't even bother to read, busy as they are tripping over themselves to make some display of disdain or throw silly one liners, with very few (tragically ignored) sensible users trying to address the misunderstanding.
And let's not pretend this is a rare occurrence either. That's pretty much their standard approach to most threads.

This isn't even about being over-defensive for the game. Can't really say I care about what their expectations are and I'm not even fully confident myself the game will be excellent (well, I surely hope so).
There are two comical sides in this story. The first is looking at these people somehow realizing just now what the developers have been stating openly since the first announcement as they unveiled some sort of scam.
The second is a pretty messed up understanding of what the term "open world" even means. Since when was the genre defined by the lack of loading screens?

Wait. This thread or the GAF thread? I've lost all track.

Also, hell on people who use one liners. Hate em.

Yeah, to be fair, this thread pretty much started from a similar premise and the first couple pages were about that same loading screen argument. Luckily, we've got a nice concentration of people that know a thing or two about the game.

The reason I didn't like inquisition because it wasn't a true open world (like skyrim) but if witcher 3 open world is like inquisition(I hope not) then I don't understand why the hell the dev's said that they will be no invisible wall!!!!!(check the 35min gameplay trailer)

Well.. Isn't there always has to be an invisible wall or an infinite ocean unless the game world is a globe(like in Spore)?

I made this map, if someone want and have account on Neogaf can post it:
