Is The Witcher 3 your new BEST GAME EVER?

+
It's an incredible game and definitely in my top 3, along with shadow of the colossus and mass effect.

The best thing I played since 2009 Dragon Age: Origins. I hope they will keep patching the game, I hope to play it again after they release all the DLCs - it deserves to be polished (ta dum tss) a little bit more to go from "my top 5" to "the best god damn thing I have played".

- The side quests seem more interesting than the man plot so far, admittedly im still in velen.. but the bloddy baron chain and the bog witches chain has been better than the hunt for ciri

The bloody baron chain and bog witches are part of the main plot chain.

I don't think Skyrim's movement and control is better in ANY way.
And this isn't even meant as a particular praise to TW3, it's just that Skyrim doesn't do anything in that area particularly well, so even a game that could improve a fair bit in that sense, as it is TW3, comes out on top by comparison..
In Skyrim your movement options are extremely basic and limited, you can't climb, the combat system seems imported directly from Minecraft ("strike, walk back, strike, walk back...") and the third person camera is spectacularly ugly to look at, both because of floating controls and wonky animations.

Well, yes it's an extreme. Super basic, bad animated, but you are completely in control at all time. you can walk up to an enemy strike him precisely where you want to, take a step back turn around strike another enemy etc...
I agree that they are basic and minecrafty but in TW3 it's the other extreme... (exaggerated) you basically 'hold button to do cool sword fighting stuff'.

yes, a couple of more patches/mods and it'll be perfect too, and then when the expansions come...

I'd say it tops Gothic 2 in many, many ways, but it also falls flat on its face in few quite relevant aspects (loot distribution and itemization being probably the most relevant, lack of a decent stealth/crime system a close second).

On the other hand, when it comes to world design, maps layout, etc this has to be the first "high budget RPG" that didn't disappoint me compared to Piranha Bytes games and the combat is far far better than anything Gothic 2 ever had.

I liked TW2 despise its flaws, but I I'm struggling to think of any single aspect of the game that TW3 does not improve massively.

To each their own of course, it's a matter of opinion. I struggle to find any aspects of TW3 that I prefer over TW2. The only one I can think of is amount of content but that's not really something I'm too concerned with. Quantity is far behind quality in my list of desires. As far as what TW2 does better - it's all subjective but for me:
1) Story - I preferred the fantastic political intrigue, suspense, twists of the plot of TW2 to TW3's "search for lost daughter".
2) Graphics - I still think TW2 looks better in most respects. Quite stunned that a game that came out 4 years later doesn't blow away its predecessor.
3) Puzzles - I prefer to not be led around by glowing yellow circles telling me everywhere that I have to go. Granted I am able to turn off the minimap in TW3 and I did that but the quest descriptions are often not enough to determine where I have to go...
4) Story progression - I don't care for "open world" design in story games. I think it kills pacing completely. TW2 had what I considered fantastic pacing and still large areas where one can get lost in and explore. TW3 has issues with pacing because at any time you've got crapton of random quests and often it feels like I'm just trying to manage the gigantic quest list going from one to another.
5) Armor design - I find the design of EVERY SINGLE armor I've seen in TW3 with exception of default and Temerian armors far FAR inferior to 95% of TW2 armors. Yes they're more realistic but they're totally hideous to me. There ways to make good looking realistic chainmail/leather armors but somehow those aren't in the game.

Overall, I very much like TW3 but to me TW2 is head and shoulders above it.

Anyway, I give a more definite answer when I am done with the game, but its top 10 for me, for sure, maybe even top 5.

There is a area I think can be much improve (not the graphics thats another topic), & some minor issues like npc & blacksmith not showing, crushes, not too many & dealbreaking, but they added up a bit.

But I think being top 10 games on any one list should be something any develop shopuld be proud about.

I thought TW3 would be my favorite game during 50 hours, then I started to dislike what they did with the plot, the Hunt, Emhyr, Radovid, Dijkstra. Some of the magic was gone and all the other flaws of the game became apparent afterwards.
The game is excellent though, and one of my top 10, but my favorite game? Nah.

Top five...absolutely.
It has everything I want to experience in a video game and excells in almost every major aspect.
However, there are a lot of small problems/annoyances ( understandable for something this size) and some quests and characters feel they were not given the same attention as others. If developers continue to improve it even further, it will be an unrivaled masterpiece...Hell, it already is.

For me TW3 is a jack of all trades.
The best story driven game i've ever played is Planescape:Torment
The best sandbox game i've played is Morrowind
The best combat in an RPG is on the Souls Series(mostly Dark Souls 2 and Bloodborne, strictly for combat)
The best itemisation/build diversity system is for me on Diablo 2, or in Path of Exile

The Witcher 3 combines all the above elements, and while for me is not the best in any of it, is doing a, decent to excellent job in all of them(mostly in the narrative and sandbox elements, while it falls abit short on combat and itemisation). Dark Souls was called a flawed masterpiece. Such is TW3. I do not know if it is the best game ever, but it's definetely up there.

I don't agree and I loved for once to be in control of a "hero" who was looking after a personal matter rather than to save the world
(which on a side note is where the ending disappointed me a bit).

2) Graphics - I still think TW2 looks better in most respects. Quite stunned that a game that came out 4 years later doesn't blow away its predecessor.
I really don't understand how this could be. While TW2 was a gorgeous game with a great art direction, there's virtual no area of it where TW3 doesn't top it, especially from a technical standpoint. Better animations, better models, better vegetation (which is a lot, coming from TW2) etc.
The only area where I thnk TW2 still comes out on top at times are costume and armor design... But even then, it's not such a systematic advantage, more something situational.

3) Puzzles - I prefer to not be led around by glowing yellow circles telling me everywhere that I have to go. Granted I am able to turn off the minimap in TW3 and I did that but the quest descriptions are often not enough to determine where I have to go.
I criticized this part of the quest design myself several times, but I don't think it's a great point to use in favor of TW2, which suffered from the exact same issue and was even more linear in terms of quest solving.

And this is where I disagree completely.
TW2 was incredibly far from "ideal pacing" in a RPG as far as I'm concerned. In fact I already criticized it often in the past for being clearly a game WAY too fond of its "cinematic presentation", who cared a lot more about guiding the player on rail and presenting a story than it did of letting the same player have some agency.
And I really don't think those areas could honestly be described as "large" by any angle, let alone imagine someone "losing himself" in them. Thety were both small in size and extremely low in terms of possible interactions, because everything that wasn't strictly part of the main plot served just as scenery.

Oh well, while I think you are being a bit hyperbolic in the bolded, this is finally a point we can agree on.
I liked the style they pick for (most of) the Witcher outfits and NPC armors in the second game. The former especially gave that right vibe of being outfits suited to some sort of travelling occultist (which is what Witchers are in the end), rather than most of the armors in this sequel, that scream "soldier" more than anything else.

Overall, I very much like TW3 but to me TW2 is head and shoulders above it.
Eh. Overall, I like both, I still think TW3 has some glaring flaws (and I put itemization/treasure distribution on the top of my list of complaints), but taking an overview on the games I think TW3 is an incomparably better game.
It even has a competent combat system! Imagine that.

Yes and i'm kinda worried now because this game set the bar high up, so if i'm going to play other games i will keep constantly comparing them to this one and i'm afraid they might feel subpar to it.

Even though I argued with @Tuco on more than 1 occasion :)P) I have to wholeheartedly support his line of argumentation this time. It is not that the Wild Hunt is perfect, because it's not. The greatest thing about the game is that it feels like the dev learned from all these different sources.

It beats Vanilla Skyrim at the excitement you experience while exploring.
It beats TW2 storytelling because it's intricate , yet accessible. TW2 was a game that rewarded maximum commitment. If you didn;t make a huge effort to get into the plot it wasnt much fun. I personally loved it because I like games that require you to make an effort. But TW3 is engrossing from the get go. the whole fatherhood theme is really interesting and original.
Finally it beats Dark Souls because Dark Souls is not an rpg and doesn't even try to be one :p DS is one of my top 10 all time but it is not a competitor of TW3, stop making this comparison people.

For me a remarkable game is a game with a clear mission that delivers on its mission. CDPR wanted to give us an adventure of the lifetime in a open world setting. And the thing is: they have totally succeeded.. They have learned their lessons, took inspiration from all the right places and delivered an experience that is like nothing else on the market. It might not be perfect but main competitors (Fallout 3, Skyrim. GTA V) fade in comparison.

Hi all,
So after spending 150h onto TW3, I can easily say that Skyrim and Bioshock has fallen as my BGE.
TW3 is incredible in every way, most beautiful game on consoles (that's my opinion), most interesting also, this game just settled the bar too high...
Who think that TW3 is their best game ever?
Also, which game could take TW3, the goty this year? I don't see any... closest is perhaps Batman?

I don't think so, even not the best chapter in TW trilogy...

Big fan of TW1 ;) / TW2, i'm disappointed.
All "old school rpg's elements" are gone (importance of meditation/alchemy), combat is boring, story line/choices (except few moments) are almost insipids comparing to TW1 / TW2 (after 230 hours for my first run on TW3), importance of past choices is ignore.
Of course it's beautiful, but every interesting little thing of previous chapters are diluted in this fake open world...

I still got this impression that this game was made for lazzy console gamers or a fun game for casual gamers :/

EDIT : I've always thought that CDPR was the top of RPG commitment, i'm starting to doubt ; especially for "Cyberpunk".
