Issues: please help

Have tried to get into this game multiple times since release, so far looks like i've wasted £40 having bought the digital version with no hope of refund or exchange.

I'm finding this game utterly insufferable. Like many posts all over the internet, i find the combat to be awful. I just killed the griffin after 5 or 6 attempts, the only way i did it in the end was luck, as it seems to be a total guessing game with regards when to dodge. I kept getting hit when it flys in at you, as i'd press roll, then a random amount of time later he'd actually roll, usually too late. It kept bearing down on me, all i could do was slowly walk backwards or roll/dodge and eventually it'd get into range then hit me. Its not "hard" because there's nothing to it, take a potion, dodge, hit or cast a spell.

Moving around is hell. I've found it sometimes takes 3 or 4 goes just to walk up a staircase. It was easier than this in mario 64. I feel like i only have about 50% control over where he actually goes, feels like i'm walking through treacle, its often a massive effort to try and get him positioned to be able to "press a" for speech or to pick up something or whatever. The horse is even worse, and for all i can tell, seemingly random, how is this even supposed to work?

The acting is utterly generic and wooden. I don't know how much of the game i've seen but so far nothing has been compelling, help a women find a pa, try and kill a giant bird with a partner who is entirely ineffectual, play a pointless nonsensical card game, etc.

All of the above would be fine if it wasn't for the massive amount of praise this game is getting. I don't even understand why people are saying its "big". I've run into the edge of the map twice by accident and ending up getting killed both times when he refused to get off the horse and was killed by dogs. In skyrim i used to be able to walk for ages, and the scenery was beautiful, and that was almost 4 years ago.

Can anyone help out here? Where am i going wrong? Really feel like its £40 down the drain at the moment.

Are you still in white orchard? If so than yeah that map is a bit small, the one after the one following is much bigger. Regarding your other problems: Yeah movement is one of the downsides of the game, but you get used to it eventually. Combat consists of dodging the attacks of monsters you just have to do it at the right moment, which you learn to recognize after a while. The quests are imo one of the best I've seen, but again if you're only in white orchard you haven't seen much.
But quite frankly if you really don't like it, and seeing that your problems, at least with combat, movement will not change, than yeah try to return it.

Thanks for your response. I wasn't aware the game has "areas" as such i assumed it was just one world. I'll maybe wait untill some of the technical issues are patched then see if i can get past the issues with the controls and combat.
