Needless to say I've been hearing about "Ghost in the Shell" in particular for quite some time, just never got around to watching it.
I'll add it to the list ... given the size of the list it'll get around to it about a year after CP 2077 is released.
Had nothing to do with the explosions, had to do with an animated film, by a ridiculously talented animation studio, was wasted on people standing absolutely still for half the movie...
Next you are gonna tell me you thought Oshii's Patlabor was good.
Really don't get that argument. Yeah, characters talk in this movie and when people talk, they ain't moving in any spectacular fashion.
If you're looking for bad Oshii movie, try Avalone.

I'm not sure how you can love Blade Runner, Wisdom,which has, what, three action scenes? And then hammer GitS for lacking action. GitS 1 has lots of crazy action. Airborne snipers, tank fights, stealhthsuits fights, car pursuits.
In context, kids, remember as much as we love Wisdom, he is very much an action-fan of Cyberpunk. Doesn't particularly like the books, doesn't think the game needs Rockerboys, doesn't usually have much interest in Netrunners.
Prefers GTA and SR for games.
Did write loads of detail on NIght City, vehicles, gear and CPunk settings. Including GitS stuff. Just prefers, you know, excitement to meditation.
Different strokes is all.
Also, @suhiir, I'd go watch GitS tonight. Seriously, it's that good. If you liked it, start lining up SAC episodes.
But watch GitS tonight. There are lots better movies - but only if you consider the top 100 movies ever made. And for anime, GitS is in the top 10. Maybe top 2, with Akira, some would say.

Second....the Hobbit is not a definitive film for any genre ever. GitS is. Move it to the top of your list. It's 1.5 hours or so! Just spend the time. Then report back.

Hobbit was fun, but it was hardly great. Lots of flaws. Ghost in the Shell had flaws, but it was a definitive Cyberpunk movie. Full conversion borgs, questions of humanity, worth of AI, freedom of information vs control, mind-control across digital media....oh yes.
LOTR is a great movie, but extended edition was a special joy to watch..
Hobbit movie was ok.. Just barely ok.. It was a really terrible decision to make it a trilogy.. It is painfully obvious that they are only making this a trilogy because LOTR was a trilogy and they are failing miserably.. They have made three movies out of three books and it payed off, now they are trying to make three movies out of a single book and they don't seem to understand the problem..
its crazy to think of the idea of making a small 300 pages book into a movie triology.......just for the money
