There's a glitch where they won't take damage. Getting these will do nothing.

I had this glitch, all I did was reload a previous save. That fixed it for me, not sure if you've tried that though..

I tried the fighting side quest twice before I gave up. I assumed I just sucked at punching people. Maybe I'll try it again and see if they actually take damage when I hit them.
