Kayran - is there any cheat?

Congrats, it took me a few times on my first time. Now, it's just too easy, takes me about three or four minutes and I never die.

I'm also having a very hard time with this. The bad part is, I'm on the "Easy" mode. To me this thing seems crazy hard. I'm using the Yrden spell but placement isn't always on spot. I read when the Kayran gets upset you're supposed to go to the drop down area for cover, but I still get hit. I can't seem to time when to dodge the tentacles.

If this thing is this tough for me now, I have a feeling the road to beating this game is going to be long or never finished. I like the game a lot, but the difficulty and lack of direction for quests is a little frustrating. Oh, and on easy mode I get beat up a lot. I guess the game just requires a certain amount of skill that I obviously don't have.

If you're totally stuck and on PC, upload a savegame from just before the fight to a hosting site somewhere, and someone can play it for you and then send it back. Don't let this put you off the game - it's definitely not a typical boss-fight, and there're plenty of people who've had a lot of problems with it but still gone on quite happily to finish the game. (If you're on Xbox, I'm not sure if this is possible or not?)

On the your other experiences so far, it gets a LOT better as you get more accustomed to the combat techniques.

This is how I've killed the Kayran since 1.0, and it never fails. Only difference is that in the PC version it throws rocks (and I always get hit at the top of the bridge, hence using Quen beforehand), whereas in the Xbox version it didn't seem to throw any. The actual fight is at 5:10.

Running to cover when it has its tantrum is a bad idea. You're already where it can't hit you, having cut off the tentacle that would be able to hit you there. Just stand in place until it's finished and then move on to the next tentacle (but don't run under the farthest ones on the left and right, because it'll whap you from the side; let those ones come to you).

And the superfluous usage of Yrden is because I'm not used to the controls quite yet. Keep thinking that button is strong attack, for some reason.

Put my resolution on real low and used QUEN amd Yrden sign.

Before you use this though, you may want to try it again yourself. My suggestion would be that you consider going back to an earlier save, before you meet up with Sile and start this quest, and go through a few more of the quests first to get to a slightly higher level before attempting the Kayran.

Also, you can take up to three potions for any fight. If you're going into a difficult fight, like this one, I'd strongly recommend you take Swallow, and maybe consider picking up a few other potion recipes from merchants.

You'll probably find it a LOT easier then.

If you do use the save file that I just uploaded, you still need to
- loot the body
- level up
- go and get your reward from the merchant.

There are times in which the AI seems glitchy in this fight.

So tonight...

I completely own the Kayren. Flawless victory, hit the QTE.... my finger slips, I have to reload because I die.

Okay whatever.

I repeat the same strategy. Quen. Yrden.... except it's like the Kayren knows my tactic and won't frickin' land the proper tentacles on my trap no matter how far to the left or right I go.

Pisses me off.

I'd also like to emphasise for anyone doing this quest - don't try it too early. You're given the quest fairly early in the game, but that doesn't mean you have to go and do it straight away. Do some side-quests, level up a few times, make sure you're very comfortable with the combat and using signs. The kayran will wait, and there's no risk of the game going out of sequence.

Yes, that is key. Note that you can only trap the tentacles with the red nodes (I think). What I did was put a Quen on Geralt every chance I got. Going left to right as you face the Kayran: Quen (Key 8 ), run to tentacle #2, see where it lands, cast Yrden (Key 6), trap, start chopping, Quen, finish chopping, let cut scene play, run to tentacle #1, Yrden, start chopping, Quen, finish chopping, let cut scene play, run to tentacle #5 (I think) on the right side, Yrden, trap, chop, Quen, wait for swinging tentacle to catch me, chop, wait to drop off (I have difficult QTE turned of), run to base of ramp, Quen, run up and complete QTE! YEAH! Thanks for all the help.

I really like the game, however, the fight against the Kayran is just frustrating for me. I try it now for more than two hours and the very best I achieved is the cut off four tentacles, then I was hit and again dead. Most of the more than 100 (!) times I tried I die after the 2nd tentacle ... I get hit three times by a tentacle and its already over ...

So is there any cheat to pass this? I really don't know how to get on and I refuse to make this fight another 100 times ...

Dude, you don't need a damn cheat. Look on youtube. It took me a few tries too, but now I can do it easily. Upgrade your vigor and keep quen up.

Turn off "Difficult QTE's) in the options section. Then you don't have to press the spacebar at the appropriate time. Also be sure you put down a Quen on yourself before you run up the ramp, or the tentacles will get you. If you are on the tentacle, then the rest is pretty automatic!

There were God-mode cheats, and I've seen references to people using them, but they may not have been updated yet for EE. It's more satisfying to do without, but I'd rather see someone use a cheat than give up the game just because of one nasty kayran

I died about ten times before beating the Kayran this time around, I just had to remember what order to do things again. (I did it on Dark Mode without Quen ) I then chose a dialog I didn't like and reloaded and did it again, got it first time though lol. I think I remember killing the Kayran like six or eight times in a row just to see all the different dialog options lol
