Got there, Under movement, found IK_W= and changed ti to IK_Mouse5= did a read only, saved, but in game there is no change, same W forward. The file says Mouse5 not W. I binded MOUSE 4 in options for E with no problem.
Any suggestions?

Interesting thing. I cant answer a topic with my main account. Look like they forbid me from posting without any notification, so i had to create another account to answer. Nice to know they act like that....

But yes going to
C:\Users\*your window session name*\Documents\The Witcher 3 and opening "input.settings" ( i strongly recommand notepad ++ ) will allow anyone to fully rebind ALL keys.

For exemple if you want to rebind w a s d,

1- use the "replace" function from notepad++ and search for IK_W= ( for exemple )
Its important to ALWAYS keep the "=" in the search / replace ( just in case the "W" would just be the first letter of a word.

2- Then in the "replace by" type IK_*the letter you want use"= ( always keep the "=" )

3- Select "replace all"
Do that for all keys you want to replace

Because in this file the default "IK_W=" is listed several time for differents action like : geralt movement / horse movement / boat movement.. Its like that for every function, like the "use" is listed for like 40-50time differents actions

You can do that following the same method for anything you want. And to easlyly find the function you want, open the game go to the key configuration, check the key and do a search in the file with notepad++

Its a bit tricky, and take a little time but you are going to be able to remap ALL keys ( even the locked one in the menu, like character / inventory.. etc ) without any issues.
Would have been better to have a proper rebind ability from the beginning, but still better than having to play with the default keys or bothering with a autokey or whatever other software

I agree with the people being really angry about the key bindings. For a game that has been anticipated for so long it is just incredible to find out a full key binding was apparently too much to ask for. I paid good money for this game and now I am tremendously dissapointed. A customized mapping would make this game A LOT more enjoyable and come on people .... how hard can it be? Please patch this as soon as possible, and then I mean before the end of the week ...

Only 1 problem i have is with horse galloping controls.. why in the hell cant it be the same as running?

Its almost impossible to rebind that one To something within reach of your fingers.

Eventually i settled for rebinding the walk/run because well i tend to run more then walk anyway.

This really blew my mind when i wanted to rebind my movement keys...

Did you make a deal with controller manufacturers or something? Trying to get us all to buy a game controller instead of using the keyboard with the settings to our likings?

Shame steam doesn't do refunds, can't play this game like this...

I've never been so angry about a game that I had to log in to say something, but this time I'm boiling mad. After all the high hope I have for W3, even preordering it to show my support, this is what I get? Is this how a PC developer treat its customers? By locking key bindings? ON A PC GAME? Whose idea is this?

And I don't even want to talk about WASD not appearing in the key binding map... What a joke.

Fix. It.

Still, served me right for preordering before seeing the final product. I learned my lession. Very disappointed in CDPR.

to rebind the keys directly in the file do as i say early

C:\Users\*your window session name*\Documents\The Witcher 3 and opening "input.settings" ( i strongly recommand notepad ++ ) will allow anyone to fully rebind ALL keys.

For exemple if you want to rebind "w"

0- ofc open input.settings" with notepad++, press ctrl F to open the "search" function, and select the tab "replace"

1- use the "search" function from notepad++ and search for IK_W= ( for exemple ) select search in all the current document to be sure you have the right keybind
Its important to ALWAYS keep the "=" in the search / replace ( just in case the "W" would just be the first letter of a word.

2- Then in the "replace tab" in "search" type IK_W= .And in "replace by" IK_E= ( always keep the "=" and "e" ofc just as exemple )

3- Select "replace all"
Do that for all keys you want to replace

In the file the default "IK_W=" is listed several time for differents action like : geralt movement / horse movement / boat movement.. Its like that for every function

I have two issues with keybindings:

1st: By defaut, the keybind for Call horse and Stop Horse is X. I want to change both of them to Numpad+. However I can't use this keybind twice like the X.
So i dig into the input file, and when i force Numpad+ for Stop Horse, in the game it shows me 'Stop Horse - Numplus;IK_X'

2nd: I want to rebind 'Draw Steel Sword' to 'Mouse scroll Wheel Down' and 'Draw Silver Sword' to 'Mouse scroll Wheel Up'. However, it seems the game makes no difference between Up and Down meaning i just get 'Mouse scroll Wheel' for one of them. If it exists, what's the input to write for mouse Mouse scroll Wheel Up and
Mouse scroll Wheel Down for the input file (IK_??)

I apologize for any grammar mistakes as English is not my native langage and thank you for your help.

So movement keys by default are WASD and we can't use arrow keys as well for movement?

there is a way ( i explaned how in the preview page ) to rebind all your keys. Its OFC wait less handy that having a correct menu, but its perfectly doable. Its another console alpha version sold as "release" on PC. I would have never ever imagine CDPR could do something like that.. but here we are ( and that's because its CDPR that"s i'am even more desapointed )

Wow... i don't know what to say, this is my first witcher game and now my last, i have been switching S and W keys for decades because of my hands and with the lack of basic key rebinding for the witcher 3 now its unplayable.... What a waste... and no i will not use a controler.

Has anyone been able to change the ini file to replace W with Mouse5? It doesn't seem to take even with a readonly save. I also notices the arrow keys reflect the ASDW keys.

I am literally stunned that we cannot rebind our keys. This is a MUST for every left handed player on earth. I'll never preorder another game from this company, as this is completely unplayable and I have wasted my money. I'm not going to manipulate the game files or use a 3rd party program or use a damn controller on my pc. I absolutely adored Witcher one and two and was so excited to play 3. So, so disappointed.

I've tried to change the input.settings manually, but it seems that nothing changed; I cannot use the numapd keys, I don't understand why :(

I'm really disapointed too for this miss from CD Project, I'm left handed and I thought that they would have think about it.

But I cannot denied that W3 is a great game and that they will correct this in the future (I hope very soon). They have allways answer to their community until now.

I hope also that they will add a shortcut to hide/unhide the HUD in one key, because it is so Beautifull and I want to take screenshots so often!

You didn't just forget about remapping inventory keys (which would be bad enough) someone consciously decided that it's a good idea to PREVENT the players from changing them and present an icon of a lock as a big FUCK YOU! What the fuck were you thinking? Ugh!!!
