Maybe this has already been mentioned in this huge thread, but there's a typo in the inputUserMappings.xml file. Just search for the string ">>" and you'll find it. This might not be important at all though.

It would be nice if we could just rebind ALL the keys to whatever we like. It's 2020, this is a PC game, and there is no logic behind why they decided to go this route. Please CDPR let me decide what I want to rebind so I can enjoy your game.

I hate to say this, but this problem of not being able to rebind the PC keyboard has to do with the Red Engine's features. It appears that this engine is optimized for consoles, and not for the PC market. All I can say is: if Ubisoft can make their games PC friendly as in being able to be FULLY PC KEY REMAPPABLE, then CDPR can TOO! No excuses, whatsoever!

It took me a while to figure out that pressing I exits the UI directly back to the game, instead of having to press Esc multiple times to exit. Pressing I also enters the main page of the UI from the game. Press K to enter Crafting directly from the game, O for Inventory, P for Character, and J for Journal. None of these are shown in the key binding list. Those who wonder why I, J, K, etc., are unmappable, that's why. Witcher 3 has unmappable keys too, but at least they are shown in bindings. Looks like an easy thing to fix in a patch. Just show us all the bindings (as in Witcher 3) so we know what are mappable and what aren't.

Well unless this is a brand new engine, which it might be, they can sort this out. Even if they have to rewrite something if it is a new engine, they're just going to have to. Because people want to control their game their way. I want to be able to use Xpadder, and multiple other people with conditions require support.

I don't understand why I can remap these keys (K, I, J) for vehicular movement and not for walking/running. I haven't played far enough to be driving yet, but are these menus and options unavailable in driving mode?

There is no excuse for PC to have binding issues because we have 100+ keys on the keyboard. In the old days there was never any binding issues with PC games. It was only when console games became dominant, and PC games' UI suddenly became dependent on console games' UI, that this ridiculousness started to occur. CDPR, for your next game, make a dedicated UI for PC, and THAT would be the new frontier -- well, not really, because that was what we used to have before.

I've managed to rebind the keys in usersettings.json to make movement the arrow keys. But using inputusermappings.xml to change the keybinds for pickup objects and grab enemy, from F, to End key, gives me an error message in game (where the suggestion for what key to press pops up) and doesn't work therefore isn't a solution like some have mentioned.

I had this issue with League of Legends and had to do a mess with the .json config and the windows mouse config when i bought a left hander mouse. I now use an ambidextrous mouse and the problem is gone. I guess gaming is not for left hander xD.

GL HF with that problem :D

Incorrect. Play Assassin's Creed games: Origins, Odyssey and you will be happy with them for the keybindings

It´s unbelievable, any QA Test/Check should have shown this instantly.
Either CDPR needs a better QA or the official Beta has just started today.
CDPR was is known for very solid & mostly bugfree releases - please go back to that point.
Keybindings are a NONO big deal breaker, a game that can´t be controlled like the players want or needed to, is basically useless.
(Sorry for the rant, but I´m hyped for CP2077 and I needed to vent my frustration)

yes man, get it out so CDPR can get the message

Well, until they sort a fix where we can bind whatever key we want to whatever action we use, I don't care what CDPR says

After 7 years of development, if I was a project manager in CDPR I'd be looking for [the person responsible].

the person responsible is the head of CDPR. He knows all of what is going on and they made this decision and everytime they allow someone to play for 4 hours or whatever, it was always on a controller. A controller you say!

Yeah, gonna chime in here with agreement. Being able to customize your key binds is essential to a having a more fluid experience. Note of point, you should be able to assign multiple functions to one key. For example, entering and exiting your vehicle can be tied to one and not two keys.

yes, so short keypress you whistle to get attention, long keypress call horse as in ACOdyssey

Not being able to rebind f key is almost the final nail in the coffin for me. Unoptimised for pc all this hype hype hype and it's a console port with forced extremely blurry AA that even amd sharpness AND reshade lumasharpen can't fix without other issues appearing... I've come into this game with lowered expectations and am still dissapointed. Aiming with controller is insanely inaccurate especially when aiming for moving targets (definately more frustrating than enjoyable), mouse is soooo much better, BUT can't rebind essential keys?? Literally have the refund page open right now debating on whether to refund or not... and I thought cdpr was meant to respect/listen to thier customers. Apparently thats only true now if you own a console? So I should go buy one from one of these scalpers who have them all in thier warehouses SIGH (not going to happen). I know it's just a game guys, but damn my enjoyment has been smashed, so depressing lol.

the best thing to do is to park those feelings and occaionally check the forums for fixes and if one is feasible, then rekindle our love for great games like this one

It'll remap those if you replace them in the InputUserMappings.xml in the install directory (Cyberpunk2077>r6>config). That's where the hard bindings are stored. Make a copy first and be careful not to mass find-replace because you'll end up rewriting several of the Function keys (IK_F#) if you do.

I actually had to verify my files for the game through GOG and then do the whole thing over again, but it looks like it worked this time. I didn't do anything differently, so I'm not sure why it didn't "take" the first time.

I specifically made sure that the settings for "Use Item", "Takedown", etc were changed the first time too, but they were still defaulting to F.

At least this workaround does seem to work, but CDPR really needs to put this in the UI options. Not everyone is tech savvy and confident enough to faff around w/ .xml files just to make the game playable/controllable, nor should they be expected to.

Having the same "fun" of not being able to map the F key. Yes I worked around it in the json file but point is I should not have to, it is 2020! Now for added fun: I can NOT see where to remove the F binding from "use" so now every time I try to talk to someone or pick objects up I shuffle to the right. Real smooth.

CDPR I love you guys and girls but this is straight trash, truly it boggles the mind how anyone could let this slip past to release it would have been on top of my list to convey to you if I was a beta tester. I was furious about this (I despise wasd) until I found out I can edit the json so now I can at least play inbetween video crashes

You have to have upper and lower case letter correctly tho or it wont work.
Should be "IK_End" if oyu bind things to your "end" button.

Well, let me join this topic.. Highly disappointed I cannot play this game now as I'm also a left-handed PC gamer who's been using arrow keys since the early 90's and cannot rebind the keys I need in this game to play properly.. Every now&then a game pops up with issues like this, but I didn't expect to see it in this one.. I could go thru all the trouble of trying to fix things manually changing .cfg files etc, but I really don't feel like it right now.. So i'm gonna leave this game alone for now and hope they fix it soon in some patch or whatever.. Big disappointment for sure..

Same here, almost unplayable for left-handed players... Gonna wait until a patch is released. I was really looking forward to this game :-/

Another issue I've had with binds (just skimmed here, didn't notice if it was mentioned) was resetting binds for toggles after loads. Crouch in particular is the main one I use. I set left control to crouch toggle, but after any load it reverts to a hold, despite still being "mapped" in the settings. I have to set the button back to hold, apply, then back to toggle, then apply to fix it. Honestly, it's the largest annoyance I've encountered in the game, despite seeing quite a few other bugs.

I want to start by saying that I love the game! It looks very promising in the first 4 hours I've spent in Night City. My only complaint is the keymapping. Every game I have every played I used the "E" key for interact and right now it is hard locked to "F"... I hope this is something that is addressed in future updates, and hopefully soon. Outside of WASD the "Interact" Key is the most used in the game and it is hard to really immerse yourself in the game when you are double taking everytime you try to interact. Please Help!

I replaced every instance of 'F' with 'E' in 'InputUserMappings' and that worked for me.
