I shouldnt have to edit the .xml files or wherever they are. This is a complete oversight on pourpose or not by the Dev team. 2020 almost 2021. We need full customizability please.

I use a weird control scheme, esdf instead of wasd. I can't bind any keys to F other than exit vehicle. I always get an error saying there is an error binding to that key. I saw there isn't a choice the confirm key which is by default set to F so I'm guessing that is the issue.

Not sure why any game locks in their Keybinds??
It's why I moved to PC from Console...

How do you use the arrow keys? There are no close buttons and feels weird. I always use IJKL. Way easier.

I think if you have small hands its probably not ideal. But i have long fingers & it feels much better for me, I also use multiple buttons on my G700 mouse so overall in regards to muscle memory & haptics of the different sized/shaped & placed keys & buttons I find it quicker to learn them.

So I was able to help myself, I just remembered, that I can use "Razer Synapse" to rebind keys on my "Huntsman Elite" to what ever I want and bind the profiles only to Cyberpunk, still this is not how it should be in a RPG in the year 2020. Since the post has become already so big, I really really hope that CDPR will take on this issue.

That's for performance issues though which has to do with crashes and frame rates. Might still be worth a try i guess to get their attention.

Plz CD project ! You need to fix keymapping as fast as possible.
I am left handed & like loads of people posting here, i can't play because i use arrow key & not the pad (which i am so bad at). Also the fact that F CAN'T be rebind now is very weird and surprising.
Your all keymapping is just bad really....CD Project don't let us down !

Greetings everyone,

So, after some research I found a workaround which works like a charm.

To use it, you need a decent notepad to edit *.xml files such as Notepad++ as soon as you've done it look for your Cyberpunk install folder. In it you'll find a folder called r6 which contains config.

As an example it's E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Cyberpunk 2077\r6\config in my case.

Here you'll find several files. However only two of them are of interest for us.

inputUserMappings.xml and uiinputActions.xml

These two files contain the base keymapping of the game. Open them using Notepad++ and use the ctrl+f function. You can now search or, in our interest "replace". it is important that you also include the brackets ("xyz") in the following step by step instruction.

Before you start, I recommend backing these files up. Copy and paste into a backup folder or whatever you want.

1.) ctrl+f and search for "IK_T" and replace with "IK_G" //note: the G key is currently not in use at all
2.) search for "IK_F" and replace with "IK_T"
3.) search for "IK_E" and replace with "IK_R"
4.) search for "IK_W" and replace with "IK_E"

...

you get the gist of it. just repeat these steps until you're satisfied with your mapping. Replace those keys with whatever you fit's your playstyle.

Set the "write protection" property on them as soon as you're done to keep Cyberpunk from changing the files.

You may need to repeat this if CDPR updates the game.

Good luck with the above :)
So long
UA

PS: attached a zip file that you can unzip into your E:\Steam\steamapps\common\ folder with my versions of mentioned xml files. It's an "ESDF" setting

I asked Steam for a refund because I can't map the keys I use normally. I use arrows to move both the character and vehicles. I use the NumPad for jump, skills/abilities and potions/vials. I also use PageDown, Delete, Insert, PageUp, Left Shift and Left Control. Not sure why we can't just map any key anywhere tbh.

When they allow me to map any key anywhere I might return but as of right now I can't play the game in a fun manner having to use W,A,S,D, Space, etc. I tried altering my InputUserMapping but seems to only work on half the keys for some reason and still can't jump at all. Got my car stuck the first time I altered the InputUserMapping file because something happened with reverse so couldn't back up or walk backwards.

7 years of game development and they cannot/didn't allow custom key binding that Half Life had back in 1998.

Wolfenstein 3D allowed it. Since then I'm not aware of any first person game that would not allow you to rebind controls.

I'm an ESDF binder too. Cmon Projekt RED, this is a pretty simple fix, please look into it ASAP

Support section states "Remapping of controls for keyboard and mouse is almost fully allowed, with the exception of menu shortcuts."
What a stupid criteria. Developers think players would prefer to have hard-fixed menu shortcuts instead of fully customisable key bindings.
Strange to think there isn't even one person at Projekt RED that doesn't use the antiquated WASD key mappings

All of the above plus please make all keys rebindable, and add an option to navigate menus with WASD too like in other current games..

I'm telling ya, they probably tested the game with just controllers.

I've played straight up PS4 ports with better key binding options than this!

Has anyone tried bugging the devs on the official discord? They're usually online all day.
