Pretty bizarre to find something as simple as remapping keys broken.

  • There are many keys that you cannot remap like Q, E, F, and J (Select Prev, Next, Interact & Journal).
  • Even manually editing the .json file to remap keys doesn't override these "special" ones.
This isn't a bug. This seems more like just poor discipline or design...

Please fix this. Poor controls ruin the experience.

SUMMARY: BE ABLE TO CHANGE THE PC KEYBINDINGS OF THE UI WITHIN THE OPEN WORLD. FOR EXAMPLE CHANGE THE INTERACT/TAKE KEY FROM DEFAULT KEY "F" TO "E"

I want to be able to change the UI keybindings on PC, when interacting with objects in the open world. For example, to equip a weapon that is on the ground, the default key binding is set to the R key; this is unchangeable in the key binding options. In literally every single FPS shooter on a PC, the R key is the universal key binding for RELOAD; that is the default key binding in Cyberpunk 2077. When you kill multiple enemies close-up they drop a bunch of weapons on the ground. When one enemy staggers to the ground and you AIM DOWN TO FINISH THEM OFF, you might accidentally AIM at a dropped weapon on the ground and try to RELOAD, BUT INSTEAD END UP SWAPPING YOUR WEAPON FOR THE WEAPON ON THE GROUND.

You might say to yourself: "well then why don't you change your reload keybinding to a different key?"
And I might say to you: "I can customize the size, foreskin, and color of my penis in this game. Why can't I change something so simple like a keybinding?"

Yep, the irony here could not be stronger. We're releasing a Cyberpunk game it's the future where customization this and changes that, people dress and enhance their bodies whatever they feel like. Anyone can be whatever they want to be.
So we release the game with fixed controls and firm restrictions on how you can play. With all the "inclusivity and customization" hype you could expect to be able to control the game with a vibrator. Yet here we are, begging for the possibility to remap the Fkin' F key. On PC, in 2020. F that.

As stated above... (see page 27 or previous) for the "special" "reserved" "hardcoded" or "hidden" keys you NEED the .xml file in the config folder not the .json in the AppData if they made customization easy for us how would they be able to prolong game-life by years while we hoped that they would fix it... just look at how hyped they got us with the empty promises of the past 6+years

Yes, it's not a bug. It's piss pore planning/design by the developer.

Not all keybind-changes work as intended. I think, especially, the function-keys (F1 etc..) don't work properly.. thank you for the fix!

I use a weird control scheme, esdf instead of wasd. I can't bind any keys to F other than exit vehicle. I always get an error saying there is an error binding to that key. I saw there isn't a choice the confirm key which is by default set to F so I'm guessing that is the issue.

I realized this shitty and incredibly easy to fix, headache of a embarrassing situation when I wanted to bind 'i' to a mouse button for convenience but noooo.. someone thought that what otherwise is standard in ALL GAMES (99.99998% of them) since Chalk Time Period of Windows anyway, should be excluded and not shown or adjustable for the players.. it really nag's on me when I feel like the developers of a game is deciding to rob me of my freedom to experience the game in ways most efficient and enjoyable for me. When I play its MY experience,, not theirs..

I get the overall bugs and can almost understand the Alpha state the game is basically for past gen consoles but to leave out some options while they was adding them early early on in the development and which literally would have taken someone a 30 minutes extra time of work, MAXIMUM, is in all total honesty making me pissed off.

We could start a class action lawsuit against CDProjectRed for discrimination based on hand dominance.

They have a history of doing this, it is not just 2077.

Well the guide says that the devs highly recommend playing with a gamepad over M&k. The devs say that, not just the guide. So this facade of them being a PC first dev is a joke. This is why there was limited mapping for TW3 at launch, why there is for this game, why there's retarded double tapping for dodge, why we only have 3 weapon slots and 2 item slots- this is all made for console first. Now on the visual side, this really is amazing and very much a PC game, but on control implementation, once again it's all made for a controller. And once again modders have to rectify their laziness. This will be the last time I preorder from CDPR. They've just been plain deceitful about so many aspects of this release. Hilariously, console still ended up being the worst version.

I noticed they moved this thread from the Main Technical forum to the PC Sub Forum. Are the mods trying to get this issue buried??

No. Most console gamers use a controller, and now for PC gamers It's easier to find. Before it was moved it didn't appear when you clicked on the PC section.

Lefty here, I never use WASD, only arrow keys. Fortunately I didn't pay for it. I just tested it on my son's Steam family account. 2 minutes of play and I quit, this game is 100% unplayable for lefties. It didn't even recognize my left-handed mouse!

Created an account just to say thanks for the file. It, at least, got me to the point where I could play the game.
Thanks again, Oloneus.

It turned out almost well, but the training on dodging attacks does not work out.

So modders can add binding options that weren't originally available within 48 hours of the game's release. CD Projekt should be paying you guys to fix their game and make this mod an official patch.

Mandatory post 3. Why I can't rebind everything in menu like a normal person?
