king of the hunt in prologue? + quick build advice

Playing the Witcher for the first time-- figure I'll do 1, then 2, then wait for 3 in a year+...

I am in vizima now--
So not long prior I buried this fellow's friend's remains in the chapel in the outskirts, and I run into some sort of anthropomorphised death/fate/doom ghost. We chat, but, he says we met before...?
Now I PLAY these games for the plot/characters/cutscenes. I'm not the guy who clicks through them just to get back to the action, so I wouldn't have skipped something like that. Where/when/what did I miss?? I'm not going to restart the game-- is there a clip on youtube of the chase/encounter he said we had earlier in the game?


For some quick advice that doesn't really merit its own thread:

what should I spend my money on? So far, in chapter 1, I've never bee *short* per se. I've spent it largely on books, some of which I'm disappointed to find I later found for free; but some of which I needed to spend the 400 coins on. Is there a better use?

I've now saved up 4 blue meteorite. Looking for a 3rd red meteorite.
Right now i've got the default 'steel witcher sword' and 'silver witcher sword' (just started chapter 2).
As I understand it, the meteorite upgrades the existing sword. Should I save them for better swords later-- a waste of a valuable and not exactly common-as-dirt upgrade on 2 lame beginning swords?

Finally, for stats-- are steel or silver sword ability points going to be of greater benefit later on?
First I did steel-only, after all, I only had a steel blade. BUT, 90% of what I fought were monsters... that said, chapter 1 doesn't necessarily tell me what will be needed in 2, 3, 4, 5...

You can spend your money on anything you want. I always spend my orens on books when I go for alchemy. The earlier you start collecting ingredients the better.
Also a good sword can't hurt, and an armour can always come in handy.

You can only use them for the default witcher sword, but you can have the sword crafted more than once to get a different one if you have the meteorite needed. You should use them if you have them.

If you go for the weapon tree, you'll need both. It does not cost that much to max them out but you will notice the difference.

There's actually no way of knowing about the King of the Wild Hunt and his history with Geralt if you play the series for the first time. It'll be cleared up later on in the games, don't worry about it. You do not meet him earlier in the game; Geralt met the King of the Wild Hunt prior to the plot of the first game, these are the things he can't remember at this point. Like I said, it'll be cleared up.
