The specs are not great, not for a game like the Witcher 2, the GT series is pretty low end in the nVidia range. The cpu is decent but I would look at upgrading, what resolution are you playing at first though?

The GT 220's pretty marginal for this game; and the Q8200, while a quad core, is not a fast one. If that's an OEM GT220 in a commercially built computer like an HP, Gateway, or Dell, it may be even slower than the retail GT220.

Steady performance at low to medium settings and 1280x720 should be achievable. You may have to go looking for crapware that your machine is trying to run at the same time as the game. I wouldn't hope for a lot more.

Upgrading is a possibility; it depends on exactly what make and model you have.

If you have a monitor that isn't 16:9 aspect ratio (say, 1280x1024), try windowed 1280x720. I think the game's happiest with 16:9 and makes the graphics card work overtime if you use a non-16:9 resolution. It also seems to behave better windowed than full-screen with low-end graphics cards.

Try 1280x720 in a window (in the Launcher Options, turn off "Enable fullscreen", set the resolution to 1280x720, and set the overall settings to Low). See how that does, and you may be able to increase the eye candy from that starting point.

A set of specs like that suggests that you have a commercially built computer (HP, Gateway, Dell, etc.) If that's the case, then the next thing we need to know is the make and model number. That will tell us a lot about what's inside the computer already, things like whether there's enough room for a high-end power supply and graphics card.

Also, what's the make and model of your monitor?

That's what I needed to know. Yes, it's upgradeable. It's got a decent power supply for an HP (350 watt Delta-made, with 25 amps at +12 volts). It's a microATX case with enough room for ordinary graphics cards.

The upper limit of what you could drive on that power supply is a mid-range graphics card, like an nVidia GTS 450 or an AMD 5770. That would give you a lot better performance, but wouldn't do well at full (1920x1080) resolution. If your monitor is less than that, one of those would be enough. If you already have nVidia, I'd give the GTS 450 consideration.

You're not really in a good position to upgrade the CPU, and the rest of the computer (disk, memory) is good enough already. Core 2 CPUs that are significantly better than the Q8200 are scarce and expensive, and not really worth seeking out.

You could go all out and upgrade the graphics card to a high-end card and also upgrade the power supply, but I wouldn't do that on an HP. The rest of the computer is, pardon my bluntness, just too cheaply made to be worth it.

So I'd go for a better graphics card (with an upper limit of about 110 watts, including the GTS 450 and AMD 5770) and stop upgrading this unit there.

I would try upgrading your GPU and PSU if need be.
I upgraded my GPU to an ATI Radeon HD 6750 1GB DDR3, and it fixed my "lag" issue.

Here are two useful websites when choosing a new GPU.

Nvidia GPUs:

ATI GPUs:

Good luck and Happy gaming!

Upgrading a pre-built machine can be very expensive, limited and the upgrades would not last long. If you are wanting to get into PC gaming I would suggest saving the money you intend to spend uping an already out of date machine and putting it toward a fresh build.

PC GAMER magazine just did an article 2 months ago about building a decent gaming rig for under 500 pounds, I could list the specs if you like and suggest some parts.

I had an Acer Predator just one year ago when the model was first released and it was specifically designed for gaming and I poured money into it and got no long lasting upgrades. It cost me over 1.500EUR(1000 for computer when the performance was worse than the one they put together in the magazine for less than half the price.

Always avoid upgrading pre-builds in my opinion.

Sorry, im not a big comp person, but i got my game working fine with AMD Fusion program. I have ATI Radeon HD 4600 and kinda bad specs for this game, but it's just too good game to miss, so i tried everything. Just wanted to help, so if ur specs aint that good, atleast with that Fusion program you can shut down pretty much all background programs (and dont play with fullscreen), so the game could run better. I got it running with med specs just fine now. Hopefully this helps someone.

AMD Fusion for desktops
And i hope that this is the right forum for this, im still pretty new with forum posting.
