Legal labor: Welcome to your boring Cyberpunk life!

I was thinking that a lot of the cyberpunk world is legal and mundane. In an open world game it's nice to have fun/dumb missions that break up the hard edge illegal stuff.

I wonder what people think if this/have your own ideas?

For example as a Nomad pack you gain a lot of Kith/Rep by bringing work contracts to your clan examples being contracts to clean up cities/rebuild them. Doing some construction would be fun/ny?

Maybe as a fixer you have a mission string where you set up dates for *special operatives* edgerunner matchmaker?
Rockerboy do an autograph signing?
Solo you do a shooting competition?

With minigames?

Minigames, bleh. I mean, a few times but after twenty times, it becomes a chore.

That applies to the idea of legal labor as well: often boring because it is repetitive. Now, if you could include it as part of an undercover mission set, we're talking.

Let's say you've hired on with a 7-11 or Mark 24, ( major chain) in order to ambush/arrest a target known to live in the neighborhood. While you wait and watch, you serve customers, sweep floors, talk to your co-workers, argue with your new boss and so on.

And then, a few day/night cycles of work later, your target walks in to get a Slurpee. And you stop being WageSlave #4 very suddenly indeed.

Could be fun! Mostly because you'd get a look at how The Other Half, ( more like 90%) lives and works. Maybe, if CDPR did a good job, you'd feel both relief and envy as you went back to your crazy edgrerunner life.

Mm. Yeah, but I'm thinking less as "diversions" and more as a chance to see how normal people in 2077 live and work. A walk on the mundane side, as it were.

Also, your diversions thread is so February, Slim. I'm a fashionable boy.

If the city is destructible and automatically regenerating then maybe planning the architecture from preset modules in a to be regenerated city block might be a thing.

unless there are AI terrorists that wouldn't be completely legal either tho...

Driving a forklift as Ryo's day job was one of my favourite parts of Shenmue. I wouldn't mind having a job in the cyberpunk world if it's done right.

Your mention of Shenmue makes me want them to include a good hand-to-hand combat system even more.

Indeed, it will be nice if it isn't purely run and gun. Sleeping Dogs had a good melee system from what I've heard.

Cyberpunk loves it some hand to hand - the martial arts rules are fun and nasty. I hope they show through in 2077. I also hope that it's not run-n-gun, since Friday Night Firefight makes that a pretty bad idea.

Perhaps the game could encourage you to spend a finite amount of time, just until it wasn't fun anymore, practicing and teaching NPCs how to fight and/or shoot? Solo of Fortune, a sourcebook/magazine for the PnP, has sections on range time and teaching.

Teaching idiot NPCs how to shoot or fight. COuld be a pretty funny "day job" for edgerunners.

I like it.

Maybe "Scalp the Gangers"? Scavenger Hunt in the Combat Zone? Stock Market game directly influenced by insider trading reports (more fun as a corp)?

Hmm! Could be fun. I can picture some entertaining / interesting "civilian" jobs...

Media: activist for the cause-du-jour
Fixer: cab driver, concierge
Netrunner: the guy in your office who wears that "I read your email" t-shirt
Techie: the guy in your office who wears that "no; I will NOT fix your computer" t-shirt
Corporae: Amway salesperson
Solo: mall rent-a-cop, amateur MMA fighter
Rocker: waiter / waitress (of course)

I have a MUCH better idea: mix 'em up!

Fixer: the guy in your office who wears that "no; I will NOT fix your computer" t-shirt (It's funny cause he's a Fixer, heh heh)

I think this is a great idea!
A day job in Night city....

I would think take-out places would be hireing a bunch, and with gang activity EVERYWHERE, that could be way more then it sounds like. (BONUS: This could help with the whole 'personal transport device' issue if used right)

Medias could stalk celebrities and take pictures, or even take blackmail photos of random people doing bad things on the street (then find them using a fixer/netrunner
or something)

I really like the Rocker having to work as a mall cop, that cracks me up! Working security at an event/store could be something several of the roles could do (Nomad Roadie anyone?)

The idea of having to go 'undercover' by working a day job to find someone/thing is great, and having the option to continue working could be fun. And maybe if your boss isn't looking and you have the right character then some of the supply could go 'missing'

Cheesy as it is, work as a maid/servant in some fancy uptown place so you can rob it later.

Tech Support From HELL: In this day and age, at least 35% of all tech support calls are related to problems from pirating or porn. When people think there would is ending when there phone or laptop crashes, I can only imagine what kind of problems would result in a world where EVERYTHING has a computer, network connection, and ability to be messed with. (My sexeroid got some kinda virus, now that 4'9 Asian schoolgirl thinks shes Duke Wayne! Acts just like him, and she has the matching vocal patterns....) This could be a nearly endless supply of random things happening, but the wilder they get, the better. (Gonna make another post for just these)

Sales could be a good gig for some roles, depending on what they sell. I could see a whole minigame system for the interaction sequence. Street dealing your battle spoils could be fun too, just watch out for that damned Johnny Law!

I could also see some kind of call center job, but I think that would mostly be for jokes and silliness.

Bootlegging: I mean this in the 1920's sense, as in making your own (booze, drugs, whatever) and trying to get it somewhere to sell. (if street dealing is allowed, you could even sell it yourself)

Bootlegging: I mean this in the modern sense. Scoreing some video footage of a concert or something, try to sell it somewhere ( Same thing about street dealing too)
