i really liked male sheppard's VA from mass effect but if he was narrating a trailer I would probably get a little annoyed by it.

I hate VO for player characters because they always sound generic and the same. The characters are always a tough no nonsense boring personality and cyberpunk 2047 trailer voice sounded exactly the same, Mr generic voice that could fit in any games out there. I really don't like his voice and sad that we are stuck with it. Another reason is that all dialog will be dumbed down and limiting, instead of long dialog like the old RPG games used to have. The tradeoff is not worth it in my mind. Artificial voice technology has come a long way, and the work that google and others are doing is really impressive. I am hoping in the future game companies start replacing the protagonist voice with a computer generated one where we can adjust the voice to match the personality we want and that developers will not be stuck with only using what is recorded, but can change it on the fly AND read out long dialog options.

strongly disagree here.

Jennifer Hale's voice for Femshep in Mass Effect was brilliant, both voice actors for Hawke in DA2 were fantastic. It really comes down to the voice actors themselves, and it's not really fair to the amazing work of voice actors to say that they always sound generic and samey.

Will Voice Communication between the player and the NPC be next level of gaming? Will it Create a more Immersive Environment?

Asking questions related to ingame quests, history, etc...

Maybe for natives of the language.. for non natives.. it would be next level of frustration.

Always feel like an idiot when talking to a machine. Wouldn't add anything but annoyance to me.

Next level will probably be when natural language processing allows the game to generate dialogue procedurally and text to speech technology reaches a point where voice actors lose a job to artificial voices. Input is harder, but voice recognition will get very good in the next 10 years, google is already very good. Absolutely in 20 years you will be having verbal conversations with artificial intelligence in video games.

no. a handcrafted speech will always be superior to something randomized.

Exactly. AI can do speech synthesis and voice recognition, but that's still a long way off from creating an agent that had a mind capable of creating a conversation that can pass the Turing Test.

It would ve an impressive piece of tech with many possibilities that make life easier.

Yet giving voice commands to a machine makes me feel silly. Actually having a conversation with one is a somewhat disturbing thought...

It's a gimmick, and it's very hard to make it work well. Plus language barrier... No thanks.

One thing that I will hate in the conversations are the timed dialogue choices. I assume their role is to create pressure and make the choice feel like it has a big impact.

I hope the urgency and importance of a situation is set by the location and the motive you are there, and how the discussion flows.

I think people that complained about the dialog writing were going into it expecting something else. Pondsmith did say he wanted more punk and rock'n'roll in there and those 2 things are pretty 80s. So for me I would expect it to be more cliché, lexically speaking, for that very reason.

As for the voice over, if that is indeed the voice of male V, I think it's not the kind of voice that would fit any character and that might put some people off because it won't fit the charactes they have envisioned for their playthroughs. It sounds very young, rebelious. The tone and the feel of it is quite different from say Geralt's voice that fit his age, experience and dry humor so well. Personally, I like V's voice because he sounds like the kind of character I'd want to play.

i was fine with the male VA in the trailer. I also HATE timed dialogue; hope there is no timed dialogue whatsoever outside of like 1-2 instances or so.

I liked his voice too. I thought it fit the character.

He sounds like he has a working class background (although from a Northeastern city), which fits what we know about the character. You're not starting off as one of the Cyberpunk universe's "haves." The lines were also delivered well.

That said I'm hoping we get to hear the female version of the protagonist soon.

I read that CP2077 is going for the "Bioware style" dialogue wheel where the spoken dialogue isn't what is shown in the wheel.
This system can cause problems because sometimes you end up saying things which you didn't intent to say as the words and the way the dialogue was said differs from what you intended. In an RPG where choosing the right words can change the course of the game - a mishap like this can be really annoying.
While i don't object this style of dialogue system per se as it can be boring to listen your character to say the exact words which you just chose over and over again in a dialogue heavy section, I think this system needs an Elcor addition - like this:

angrily - fuck off
lovingly - fuck off
disagreeing yet still maintaining mutual respect - fuck off

You know something which gives you a hint of the way the dialogue will be delivered.
I expect the language in CP2077 will be quite colorful so mistakes between the player intent and the dialogue spoken can occur maybe even more than in your average fantasy RPG. I guess the intent can be signaled through symbols next to the line or smilies :love::cool:

is something like this planned for CP2077?

It sounded decent enough, but I'd love to hear the female VA to compare. One of the main reasons i played Femshep was that Jennifer Hale's voice acting sounded much better than Mark Meer's

Do we know who Male Voice actor is? Would be kind of odd if they picked someone with little background.

I'm fine with the voice, fits the tone perfectly: streetwise, young merc in this setting.

I would love this feature, for some reason I misinterpret the options in nearly every game that doesn't fully represent the options. Either this or the option to expand the option text to show my exact statement, there's nothing quite like selecting what you think is the stoic, no-nonsense option and then watching your Shepard go on a xenophobic tirade.
