I installed the game and immediately patched it to v1.2. The game started okay and I played through the introduction. After Leo's cremation, when I parted ways with Triss, the game crashed to the desktop. I believe it was attempting to load Vizima. When I tried to relaunch the game, it complained [pre]Please insert original DVD of "The Witcher"! ***[/pre]After searching, I came across a couple of suggestions. The first was http://forums.eu.atari.com/showpost.php?p=1562810&postcount=5. This had no effect. The second was http://forums.eu.atari.com/showpost.php?p=1645710&postcount=19. Interestingly this worked exactly once but loading the most recent save game crashed. All subsequent attempts failed.I did some more research and was advised to try installing an update to Tages however the version on the disk seems to already be the latest (5.5.3.1). I tried anyways but uninstalling and re-installing it had no effect. This is a 2GB Core 2 Duo 6300 machine running Windows XP Pro with an NVidia 7900 GS running the latest 169.21 drivers. There is no emulation software running. Nor is there anti-virus software. If this *is* due to the copy protection software, I'm pretty unimpressed. You're only penalizing your paying customers. It'll be pretty galling if I have to hunt down and install some crack just to get the game working.Other observations: despite claims to the contrary, the 1.2 patch didn't seem to appreciably speed up save-game loading. Compared to the demo, (which I play to completion and uninstalled), loading is quite slow. Also, during the introduction when Geralt is being carried back to Kaer Morhen, the camera pans the castle from a distance up behind a rocky outcrop. I found that the panning was jerky; one could sense the periodic redrawing of the scene. My graphics card shouldn't have had problems with that scene should it?Please supply a fix soon as I won't be able to play this game after the holidays.Thank you,Keith

just make sure you pass your concerns on to the correct coporate entity:the copy protection scheme is entirely Atari's decision (the publisher), and has nothing to do with the developer (CDProjekt).

Sometimes i don't even know why companies bother with copy protection. It takes hackers about a week to crack it, and (like the problems i initially had) if you buy something legally and it doesn't work because of the copy protection, you are often forced to use cracks to get past it, or not play.So either you have to crack it anyway, or just not play something you paid for.. its absurd.

I have an odd bug in that I have no spoken dialog for a couple of the main NPCs the Dwarf Zoltan & the Elf Yaevinn. I have the subtitles so it's no biggie, but neither of them has spoken English dialog at all whenever I encounter them. Anyone else have this/ Also the game seems far more crashy since the 1.2 patch than before. I'm running into Nvidia graphics card crashes more frequently (every few hours) and I'm all up to date with the drivers etc (Vista Home Premium).

Hi guys,I don't know if this helps, but I am now able to play the game. I was crashing every 5 mins in the tutorial. None of the fixes here, UAC, BCDEDIT etc. worked at all. Then I switched to playing in windowed mode. In a 1024 x 768 window I was able to play with all settings maxed and no crashes.I then tried 1152 x 864 and that worked too. It was not necessary to use new drivers or BCDEDIT or anything. I just ran the game in windowed mode.Oddly, it crashed at lower resolutions with lower detail settings in full screen mode. I wonder if there is something different about their code for full screen mode.?So that's my solution.Patch 1.2 installedWindows Vista Ultimate4GB RamnVidia GeForce 7600Based on my limited testing I think that the resolution and settings are immaterial. It's something to do with the full screen mode.

Getting desparate! The game refuses to install giving me an error msg.: "An error {5001: 0xffex75} has occured while running the setup. I run on a fully-updated version of MS XP Home Edition and have installed forceware 169.2 for my nVidia 8500GT. Have tried a suggestion to delete the Installshield files, reboot and install but didn't work. Three emails to Atari tech support in two days have yielded no response whatsoever. This is the first time a game (and I have loaded numerous Atari games to date) has absolutely refused to even load. And I have scrubbed my registry files and defragged within the week as well. Any reasonable suggestions for a solution here? Or should I give up as others have and try to sell the game on ebay?

2 things,do you have an anti virus and firewall running while trying to install ? Disable them to install and see if it works. If this doesn't work, run a memory test with memtest86

I disabled my firewall, anti-spyware and antivirus programs before installation. No change. But I have no idea how to run a memory test with memtest86. PC software problem-solving is not my area of expertise. And if you can direct me how to perform this test, what should I be looking for? Thank you.

If you did uninstall alcohol 120% have you set number of devices to 0 (or disable) before uninstalling ? Also, it should ask you if you want to remove so and so dll, other program may need them, you have to remove them.Simply reinstall alcohol 120% and follow this procedure to remove it. Let me know if it works, if not, we will have to work a bit to get rid of sptd

Yes it worked!!! I had alchool 120% and DT 3.41(?) and when I desperatly (because I thought it was because of the dvd writter) try to remove them, the game ran! I was starting to fall in dispair because I was reading all sorts of things in the web about this error, but, fortunately and for my good surprise, the game ran. Thanks for the help.PS: Sorry I take so long. Its because after I tasted a little of the game, I coulnd't stop ;D

I was able to solve the following problem by replacing the Pioneer 106D DVD drive. I would like to thank Christian [Mobidoy] for his help.

I bought this game legally and is it is a fun game, but it has a lot of problems. Looking at the different forums, I would say that most of them are due to the copy protection. I lose characters (the reverend) and have to start back from a savegame several hours back. The screen freezes, sometimes during a load going in and out of a building, sometimes just like that. Each time I hear the DVD player making noise. I don't want to change the DVD because it noy even one year old and never gives any other problems. So would it not be a big way forward and clear up a lot of frustration to remove the copy protection during the game. I don't like cracks and I always pay for my games, but then I would like some quality too. I understand random bugs, but not something so simple to solve as this.Hope that the christmas spirit brings a quick solution.nice hollidays guys

Problem: I have an Intel GMA chipset and receive the message "Warning. Minimum system requirments not met."Solution: First, download the current patch (1.2 as of this post). Install it. Second, download 3DAnalyze (use your favorite search engine to search "3DAnalyze" and download current version (2.36 as of this post). Install it. Third, use 3DAnalyze to run your game. Run the 3DAnalyze executable. Click "select". Find your Witcher executable (Witcher.exe). Should be in Program Files/The Witcher/System/Witcher.exe. Be sure to get the one in the system folder rather than the launcher. Once Witcher.exe is selected 3DAnalyze should show the pathway in the upper left hand area. Check the boxes for"emulate HW TnL caps", "emulate pixel shader caps", and "shaders" under anti-detect mode. Input "4098" in the box for vendor id and "20040" in the box for device id. Click thr "Run" button to start the game. 3DAnalyze will remember your settings every time you select the Witcher executable. To start your game you must use 3Danalyze every time.
