Literally going Solo possible?

+
As in finishing a playthrough without ever having any of the companions (assuming there are more besides Jackie and T-Bug) participate in any capacity, shape or form along V in quests/missions?

Can or could I have tackled, for example the entirety of Going Pro (including the confrontation with Royce and Maelstrom) without Jackie in tow?

I find it rather likely that companions like Jackie are scripted parts of important quests, similarly to The Witcher 3. Maybe we are given a choice occasionally, but no full solo playthrough.

I hope we have other companions as well. I don't know why, but I found 'Jackie' to be some what out of place(?) Not sure why, I do know I would like to have other companions available or go solo.

Well, after conversation with Dex, you can meet up with Jackie. But apparently, you can just ignore him and go to objective.
Jog there, for Jackie is the one with the car.

Not 100 percent sure, but the quest markers are there.

Good point, although there is a chance Jackie would still join V later in the quest.

That the underlying systems would be that flexible, could react to the presence or absence of characters like Jackie dynamically and adjust the quest stages/mission structure accordingly is probably expecting too much.

Of course, from a layman's perspective it wouldn't be that hard.

In case of Going Pro you could bypass Jackie's contributions by:

1. having Dexter DeShawn call V directly for the meet up
2. providing means other than Jackie's car to get to the meeting with Meredith Stout and to the All Food factory

For the confrontation with Maelstrom it obviously would be a bit trickier since you'd have to adjust the transaction going south-sequence, as well as the end fight for Jackie's absence. But all the dialogue with V and Jackie's participation during the shootouts could just be skipped entirely.

I'm sure it's possible to ditch your companions in some scenarios, but personally, I like having them around. These aren't the sorts of missions somebody would want to handle by themselves - charging into a gang hideout alone is a death sentence. Having a big, burly, trash-talking fella with you that can lift up cars is a pretty big boon.

Plus, I love the banter during drives and before/after missions. It makes you feel like you're actually in the world, and not just alone.

I actually hope we have MORE companions in this game than before, but I'm fine with it being optional in many cases.

I don't know. In a game like cyberpunk I would think that even solos would work with netrunners to help them out with certain things like hacking.

I suspect Jackie and similar characters (in terms of their role) are simply people you work with during different stages of your "career" in Night City. I assume they will be related to the main quests. Like, maybe during the first 15% of the game you have Jackie as your side-kick during that part of the game and he's there to help you with something that is important during that first 15%. He doesn't follow you around, he's there only during the main quests. Later on you pretty much move on, kind of change environment (and your status) and another person related more to that portion of the game and story appears, while Jackie remains as your friend that you can just go talk with and exchange few repeating sentences with. So the game seems to me like mostly solo with occasional side-kicks added in a way that they fit the story and are related to that portion of the game. Though I admit I would like to have an option to ALWAYS bring a companion with me, change their gear and unlock them while I progress with the story. But I don't know if that's even planned part of the game.

I'd like to play the game as stealth as possible, i hope we'll not be forced to have a companion around, it could ruin everithing (for me).

I like stealth...stealth is good. Now if i could just get my paws on a good bow with arrows equipped with explosive heads...the possibilities are endless. The mind boggles! :D

I really hope we'll get a temporary invisibility augmentation and some good melee weapon, i'll go cyber ninja all the way

maybe we need them for some quest that they found for us ? like in shadowrun return , there was this lady that only join you when you are ready to infiltrate a certain place but once it's done , she leave .

I love companions mind you , most rpg let me take my love interest with me (unless they are stuck somewhere :cautious:) .

But with shooter games , I have a tendancy to go solo more . Lack of Badass mass zapping magic tend to do that to you....

Unless they give me a cutie like Piper from FO4....then....ahem ahem...she is going everywhere with meh

Just in case the inquiry came across like I'm absolutely against companions - I'm not.

On the contrary - even when you're given the opportunity to play solo exclusively (except for escort scenarios or missions that require a or multiple companion(s)) I'm always saving that for the second or third playthrough.

Otherwise it would be quite disrespectful towards the actors doing the performance/motion capture or providing their likeness and voice for the characters, not to mention the developers putting it all together, if that work is then completely disregarded and those characters are not given a chance.

All I'm asking is if there's the option to play solo, either completely or at least most of the time.

If the quests/missions or the narrative in general in Cyberpunk 2077 are designed and written specifically with the companions' participation in mind and therefore cannot support the "Lone Wolf" approach than little ol' me and everyone else will have to accept that.

Isn't Jackie being voice by Benedict Wong? I couldn't find out who does the voice, but I though I caught his accent. Which threw me off because Jackie looks not like a Asian dude, more Amercian, but is voiced by an Asian dude, thus the confusion, for me at least.

I really liked Jackie actually. Macho tough guy, but he seems to have a kind of big-brother, family-like relationship with V.
He also shows he has a sense of morality with his reaction to the Scavengers and their antics ("real messed up pendejos").

I'm interested to see how he interacts differently or similarly with a male player character too.

Not to mention he is actually an interesting and integral part of the dialogues. Most companions just sit there with a glassy stare, but in the demo we see him actively fighting enemies and partaking in confrontrations during dialogue. Imagine he wasn't there during the Mexican Standoff for example...could have gone rather poorly for V.

But wouldn't it be interesting as well to see how V fares all on her/his own in these situations?
