Live discussions

Do we have anything like a chat room or something? I enjoy the forum very much, but sometimes, I'd just like to chat and discuss in real time with people about stuff. We have such great discussions, but they sometimes take so long over weeks, that you always have to get back into it after some time.

We haven't and it'll be a good addition if the server could support it of course.

but the conventional forum would allow every member to read and discuss their opinions.

We are all over the world and have different schedules. While some of you sleep or work some of us read the forum and viceversa.

It is a good idea in principle, but I don't think discussions we much as enthusiastic as they are on a forum thread where everyone can post if we give them time.

On the other hand, the Hairy Bear is sometimes almost like a chatroom.

This idea has come up before, but the conclusion was that it is not that easy - getting it set up, then finding people to keep an eye on it. Honestly, it's a lot of work, especially considering the time zones. But if you'd like to create and take care of your own chatroom, I guess you can post a link here and those who are interested would join :)

How about an IRC channel?

True, also we probably don't have the numbers to always fill it.

I guess, I just wish to stuff everyone in one place and just talk us to death. ^^

The Witcher wikia already has an IRC channel, #wikia-witcher on freenode. I just joined and registed my nickname in their server.

However as far as I know freenode is meant for collaborative projects, which the wiki is but not the forum. I suggest we create our own channel on a different server. Any suggestions?

Edit: how about the REDs setting up a small IRC server for us? We can take care of and moderate the channel.

Edit: another possibility is starting and using a channel at a server like gamesurge, and then applying to have it registered permanently with moderation. But I'm guessing we would have to use it regularly.

One advantage of IRC is that there are clients for virtually everyplatform: GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, Windows, Android, etc.

Edit: I am currently on a channel I named #thewitcher on gamesurge.

Final edit: JOOOOIN US!!

Hm not a bad idea. Oh and I expect the whole "timezone" differences problem to disappear soon as I foresee these forums to be bristling with activity and new members the closer we get to the Witcher 3 release date. So there'll always be some ongoing discussion and a chat room would definitely be a welcome edition!

Hey that's awesomesauce! I wonder if there's enough people around here who are willing to join. Maybe with some more visibility. Hm. If the mods think it's a good idea I bet they'll consider making it a sticky thread. I guess we play the waiting game for now, to see how much actual interest there really is.

OK I contacted MM360 asking for their permission to register a Witcher IRC channel on gamesurge using their URL, www.thewitcher.com, in the registration form.

The channel is currently active but not registered, so you are welcome to join in any case. Come on, it's super easy. Grab an IRC client and jooooin us!

I cam recommend the ChatZilla add-on for Firefox. Very easy to use and install. You connect to irc.gamesurge.net and then join the channel #thewitcher.
