Loading/Freezing Issues

Hello,

On my most recent playthrough of the Witcher 2 I've been experiencing some problems, mainly loading issues. Loading times vary, sometimes they're fast, and other times they're ridiculously long. I first noticed the issue when I completely reinstalled the game and deleted any leftover files, because when I first started up the game after not having played it since 2012, I wasn't able to load any of my old saves. They would just load in an endless loop, so I deleted all of my old saves. I then started a new game and was welcomed with some insane texture pop-in on Geralt in his tent with Triss. After exiting the tent, that's when I first saw this freezing issue. The game would just freeze for couple seconds (2-4), repeatedly. It eventually let up for a bit, but started up again, so I just decided to reinstall.

After reinstalling, the issues were pretty much gone during the prologue section of the game, but once I got to the first chapter it started up again. Everything is pretty alright inside the town, but once I leave the town and enter the village and the forest, that's where it starts up again. Earlier today I exited the Flotsam and ran around the corner into the village and saw a house with horrible plain textures that took 3-5 seconds to pop-in the normal ones. And I was running through the forest in the ran when the freezing happened, but this time it was much worse. It did its usual freeze thing, but this time it actually went into a loading screen, which lasted 20-40 seconds, that was insane. When I tried to repeat that event, I was only able to get a load screen that lasted just a few seconds. But still.

I have no idea what's causing all of this stuff to happen. Although I did switch my GPU and CPU since I last played, from a GTX 580 to a GTX 680, and a i5 to an i7.

What kind of temps are you getting on the GPU and CPU ?
Sounds like something is accessing the hard drive while your playing the game . Maybe shadowplay or another another recording program . Could also be your antivirus program in real time scanning mode .

Here are my temps: http://i.imgur.com/1C4N0Uq.png minus the GPU, for some reason I've never been able to see the temps on my GTX 680. I haven't been recording anything while playing and I'll check my antivirus software next time this happens.

Thanks for the response.

And here's the picture of the house textures I was talking about: http://i.imgur.com/hRWu9xQ.jpg

Took about 4-6 seconds for the whole thing to load, all while my game was doing that freezing thing.

Have you tried defragging the disc ?

Yes. I've tried both defragging and running CCleaner, neither made any difference unfortunately. Do you think my HDD might be dying? I don't know what else would explain the excessive loading.

It`s possible . There are a multitude of programs that can check the S.M.A.R.T status of your hard drive . This is but one .

Sorry for the delay in response.

I ended up just getting a completely new hard drive and that appears to have eliminated my issues. The texture popins have completely disappeared and I've only found myself falling into a loading screen while out exploring once ( going around the corner into Vergen for the first time on Roche's path ), although that was just for a quick second.

Thanks for all the advice.
