When a guy with two swords and scars all over his face walks into my house and takes shit worth next to nothing, I wouldn't do anything either.
They have already confirmed that there are some NPC who will care if you take stuff and some who don't. And if you behave weirdly in front of armed guards, they will beat you up. I'm happy with that level of realism. Anything more would be a case where chasing realism would hinder gameplay.

i always found it weird how i can just walk into people's houses and take whatever i want, yet when i do it in real life i always get people yelling at me and calling the police.

honestly would love to see what they do in Morrowind in this game

I think that if there are guards that see you then maybe they might take action, but "peasants" would be too afraid

From what I remember, you can steal from peasants when guards don't look, but you will get reported to them.

Thats not what i heard / have seen in the videos.

--> you can walk into houses and simply "steal" anything. Peasants don't care at all, they wont comment or call the guards. At least in the small villages
--> i heard that there are some shops and / or more or less rich-people houses that have guards, so if you try to steal anything there, and the guards see you, they will get mad and knock you out (you don't die but you will lose some of your money).

I think implrementing such a more complex system than what they already have would derail the experience of being Geralt of Rivia. I don't think he should become a known criminal for stealing some bread from some peasants. From a gameplay perspective, why would lootable items be present in a given location that you're not supposed to take but have the opportunity to? It's more of a focus which would imply there was an intent there that would allow you to become good at theft, making theft an aspect of the game. Geralt isn't a thief. He's a monster slaying adventurer.

I like how the current system sounds, at the moment. I'm not a fan of looting random things unless I need them (although I know some people are huge fans of that ~ kleptoGeralt!) so I don't think a more complex system would benefit me or the kleptomaniacs? It's a decision they made obviously. Maybe mods could help.

I always stole everything in W1 and W2 lol, need dat gold :D. It will be no different in W3 XD. Carefully planning a looting route to steal from every possible house is fun for me.

Yeah with guards magically appearing in front of you if a NPC sees you.... that's gonna be scary.

I hate that i can walk into a home and not get a reaction from people even when they were sleeping. I then dont greet LOL and start taking their belongings, they go back to sleep and i walk out. There is zero consequence and its ridiculous! If im gonna be a thief atleast let me do it in an empty home
