Lore Behind Night City

Being new to Cyberpunk, I was wondering, what is Night City?

I am guessing it is a city where it is eternally night? Is this a convenience for story or is there a reason why the sun decided to never rise again. Because I am thinking no matter how distopian the future is, it is logical the sun will still rise at dawn unless the sun was destoryed or something.

Also, I know there are ruins outside of the city, but are there other cities as well?

I did some looking into the game, and I understand the roles, their unique abilities, the implants and even most of the combat. After all the Cyberpunk wikia is very good at all of those things. But what I don't quite get is the city itself and the setting. All the wikia has is a breaf history that does not tell me much.

Can someone please tell me what this city is, why is it always night, are there other cites? Because from what I can tell the entire Cyberpunk world consistsof just one city where it is always night time.

The city was an urban development created by Mr. Night and dedicated to him after his death.

The day/night cycle works just fine.

Thanks for that part anyways. But what about other cities, landscape in the Cyberpunk world, are there any?

---------- Updated at 03:04 AM ----------

In fact, I do not like asking all these questions. Can someone point me to a good source of information about the world of cyberpunk? I mean this is all I ever found.

http://cyberpunk.wikia.com/wiki/Night_City

Is there another link someplace with more information? Other than buying a book, of course.

The issue is that the information is spread around, aside from just getting the books there isn't much you can do AFAIK.

Night City has it's own guide, so does Europe, so does Asia, and so does LEO.

Night City is a fictional city located in the dragged Coronado Bay in the West Coast (a real bay as far as I'm concerned) The rest of the country/world is a dystopian version of real world. Here is a list of some sourcebooks dealing the setting:

-North America: http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/127821/Home-of-the-Brave
-Europe: http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/25405/Eurosource-Plus?term=eurosou&it=1
-UK :http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/25406/Rough-Guide-to-the-UK?term=rough+guide+&it=1
-Pacific Rim: http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/55637/Pacific-Rim-Sourcebook?term=pacific+rim+

I do not know of other sources/sites compiling all that info, as andrew said the info is quite spread through several books. My advice is you to pick one or two of this guides in pdf and get a glimpse of the world setting.

PS: in the Cyberpunk 2020 core rulebook you have also some notes about the general setting but in my opinion its very brief.

Well, there is a Del Coronado Island near San Diego, CA. way down south of LA. Night City is supposed to be up in Northern CA,near Monterey. There is no Del Coronado Bay up there. There used to be another thread here dealing with where Night City would be located in real life, but I can't find it.

I know we all use pdf's, but linking them out in the open is generally considered not cool. That goes double when the forum in question has a business relationship with the publisher, and tripple when the pdf is avaliable for sale at a reasonable price.

*just send the links via pm like the rest of us ;)

May it be here?

https://www.google.es/maps/place/Estero+Bay,+Cayucos,+CA+93430,+EE.+UU./@35.4563723,-120.9636759,14z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x80ed211cb8e82603:0x7f67d71553cbbfa1

The only suitable place I found north of Morro Bay.

You're a touch too north, https://www.google.es/maps/place/Morro+Bay,+CA,+USA/@35.3679537,-120.8772814,12.5z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x80ece10bb9b5aa93:0xaa1be219c181970c

Page 14 of the Night City Sourcebook puts Night city firmly on top of Morro Bay, rather than north of it.

Nope. Still Too far south. The closest match I found was Carmel Bay.

Using the map on page 13 of the Night City Sourcebook Carmel was the first place it came to my attention. But in page 14 it's seems closer to Morro Bay.

Except theb the real Morro Bay is quitre literally, just north of San Luis Obispo, in Southern California, nor just south of Monterey Bay. in Northern CA. Night City is right below Monterey well above the border between Northern and Southern California. the real Morro Bay is too far south.

The maps lack any scale and the shape of the coast isn't much detailed on the Night City Sourcebook, but the legend on maps pages 14 and 19 seems pretty clear.

Lets not forget that the coat lines in 2020 are different due to higher ocean levels, (global warming,) and man made alterations, (like Dubai.)

The maps from the source books will not match current real maps.
