This is the only game I'm having this fps issue so it's not any background programs. And I'm talking about the Witcher 1, even on lowest settings the fps isn't that greatVolsung said:Make sure you're not running intrusive 3rd party software in the background, and make sure Ubersampling is disabled in the graphical settings. I would try using mostly High settings and not Ultra, too.

The Phenom II 740's nearly as ideal as an AMD CPU gets for this game; since the game runs on just one core, it might as well be a Phenom II core. I get better performance than the OP's with a 720, too.LicaonKter said:he talks about Witcher 1!?
TW1 uses the Aurora engine used back in 2001-2002 for Neverwinter Nights 1, so only one core is used and little video card resources too ( 60% on a GTS250/HD4850, 30% on a GTX460/HD5830 going up to 60% on 3D Stereo for GTX460), so a better _per core_ CPU would yield better framerates
I can assure you I have no background apps running when I'm gaming, other than Steam it's selfGuyN said:The Phenom II 740's nearly as ideal as an AMD CPU gets for this game; since the game runs on just one core, it might as well be a Phenom II core. Something else slowing the system down is my guess. The fact that other games do not appear to underperform is not convincing to me. Those other games don't demand 100% of one core. Any kind of interference will hit TW1 hard.
