Main NPC's weapons can be used by Geralt!

While skimming through the def_items_swordsteel game asset files, I found out something really cool, and immediately wanted to share it ;) Replacer items, if their models are moved to an item usable by Geralt, he will have equipped another main NPC's items, like Roche's and Iorveth's swords, and some more interesting ones too. Here's the best of them:
- Henselt's mace, an iron mace with aqua-colored gems encrusted on it.
- Roche's mace, the one at his side which he very rarely uses.
- Iorveth's bow, while not usable as a bow when equipped it would look pretty awesome in a screenshot, especially when worn with Elven Armor or Armor of Tir na Lia.
- Roche's 2H sword, the one he wears on his back
- Dandelion's lute (the instrument he carries :p)
Anyway, I hope this interested some of you, and I wonder if someone could mod these items in with their own entries (basically make the "Replacer" items usable by Geralt without having to move their model on to that of another weapon)
Cheers for reading,
Younghappy :)

Wow, that's a really awesome find! I'm no modder myself but would love to see people include them in the game one way or another. Doing a playthrough using Dandelion's lute, now that would be fun

That's pretty cool. That is all.

PS. OP, how can you still have zero posts? :| Or maybe it's a glitch? Pretty funny regardless.

Thanks for all the replies, guys! Anyway, its actually pretty simple to do, but I was hoping I could get a real modder here to make the Replacer weapons usable by Geralt, with their actual names. For example, all I can do at the moment is get the models, and its a bit weird using Roche's mace while having "Henselt's sword" equipped :p(because that's the weapon model I replaced)

There is actually an ongoing project where you can play as Dandelion and use his lute as a weapon .

^That would explain why his lute is one of the replacer weapons then :D I was thinking about that, I was like "since when does Dandelion use his intrument as a weapon" :p Also, does anyone remember seeing Henselt ever use a mace in-game, or if he had it on him in a cutscene? I can't seem to recall him ever having it so why is it in replacer weapons, with its own unique (and very cool ;)) weapon model?

that is a joke trailer and part of the pre-release marketing for the game. you cannot replace the player's model except under very limited circumstances, such as in one little part of the game, and in some cutscenes. for an actual mod, you'll have to wait for the sdk.

Seamus, seeing as you happen to know alot it seems, do you know if it is possible to make these replacer items into actual items used by Geralt? I have found bits and pieces around the place but they seem incomplete. I found that "Henselt Mace" is the item entry for Henselt's mace usable by Geralt (not replacer), except in the game it doesn't have a special name; in the game the name of the item is literally "Henselt Mace", and instead of an item icon it has item code there instead, saying "TooltipHenseltMace"... hope you can help out here :)
Cheers,
Younghappy

Younghappy1, you might want to send a PM to Kindo, the author of the Complete Equipment Overhaul mod for TW2, since he probably knows the most about modding weapons for TW2.

@Corylea; funny that you mention Kindo, I'm using (I think) all of his mods, including CEO, which is my favourite out of all the mods I use (and I use heaps :p)
@Seamus; that's what I did, unfortunately the weapon icon is missing (but going by files I've found in the pack0 dzip, an icon does exist), as well as a proper name (the weapon name in-game is Henselt Mace, the same as it is in the game files :/)
Anyway, thanks for the help both of you, I'll see if I can PM Kindo now! ;)
Cheers,
Younghappy :)

Wow, thank you very much!

One question though: will messing with the game files break Steam Achievements? I'm still trying to get all of them...
So now Geralt can use the unholy bow? Hmm.

No, it doesn't affect Steam Achievements.

On the mod itself, I don't know if it's possible or not. As far as I can see, there aren't currently any mods that bring in new weapons as opposed to just modding the existing ones. At the very least, you'd need to mod the item file, stats and merchants (to give yourself a way of getting the weapon.) If the item you want to use isn't a sword, you may also want to consider defining it as a work item rather than a sword, otherwise you get all sorts of display issues with the scabbards.

I looked into it once when I was doing another mod, but it started to look complicated and, as it wasn't that important regarding the mod I was doing, I didn't take it very far. Complicated doesn't necessarily mean "impossible". :)

Damn, just found out there is no icon for Henselt's Mace, Roche's Mace, and all the other replacers. I guess since you aren't viewing the inventory while playing as the NPC's that use these items, they didn't bother including them :p So here's another question; anyone think they could make some? Make an icon for Roche's mace, Iorveth's bow, etc.? I know how to make them icons, so long as I have a pic. Someone reply to this if they think they can do it! In fact, I think it could even be done with a screenshot of the weapon you're making an icon for, so it might not be too hard... this is something to think about indeed!

WHat would be really awesome is if someone figured out a way to add those maces and weapons (including the elusive Draug confession sword) as spawn items. Label them as rare and having a chance of spawning in one of those chests or loot tables in caves and such.

Buying them from merchants is a bit immersion breaking for me, well compared to finding them in a cave or such.

Maybe when the toolset is released someone might be able to do that . You never know .
