Make the Quick Access Menu actually quick to access

Despite it's name the Quick Access menu isn't very quick to access at the moment.

  • First, it can not be accessed all the time during combat, unlike how it was in TW2. Rolling should not disable access to the quick menu, rolling is the perfect time to switch signs or equipment because you have about a second or so where you cannot do anything else. It breaks the flow of combat and also makes you waste time standing still (I'm playing on Blood and Bones, dunno if time is fully paused on easier difficulties). I really, really do not like having to stand still and waste time while a mass of Ghouls is bearing down on me in order to complete an action that Geralt should be able to complete instantly and at any time (i.e. decide what sign to use the next time he casts a sign).

  • Second, the act of selecting your sign/equipment could also use some improvements. Currently one has to click the thing you have highlighted in order to select it, which I guess some people likes, but I (and others) would prefer to be able to select things by just highlighting them and releasing the quick menu button. Both of these methods should be available, either by a option in the control settings or by both methods being available at all times (i.e. highlight and either left click or release TAB to select).

Also, one more thing on the same note: Quick Casting. It's a great way to allow players to be fluid in combat and reduces the amount of times the quick menu has to be accessed. It existed in TW2 and worked really great there. Signs are more something that you use in the moment and depending on the current situation, it makes sense to have quick casting and not just "selecting". You don't just select Igni and go for it the rest of the fight, quick, fluid and easy use of signs are vital in order to make combat fun and "in the moment".

Can we please have quick casting return?

Agreed.

I registered the forum just for this.
Change or add option for "quick cast" please.

Were you hold L1 button and select the Sign, when you release L1 the sign is thrown.

This will make the combat feel much for fluid.

I agree. Sometimes you wonder why things that worked well on the second episode have been removed.

I have to agree that having to "click" on the sign / item you want to use is not a very good idea... The quick menu was better in TW2 in this regard. Also, if you play on PC, you can't even use keybind to skip the quick menu steps (which would be a logical choice - exemple IGNI is 1, AARD is 2, etc)

This quick menu is only here to SATISFY the limitation of controller gameplay. It has no purpose whatsoever for a PC game.

What we REALLY should have on PS4 is using the touchpad for swipes to throw the signs.
That would feel a lot cooler.

Like quick swipe forward is the pushback.
Circle for shield.
Swipe across side<>side for fire.

Or such.

So needs to be redone!

Why not make it a hold then release on the one you want to select and you are back in the action!

Well that makes no sense as there are far better ways to do it on controller... hold and release or hold and assigned buttons for two.

After playing The Witcher 2 again before I started with The Witcher 3, this bothers me a lot. Not being able to switch signs when rolling is ridiculous, and it has gotten me killed a lot of times.

i'm totally agree with the second point, acept the sign with we have select is a big lost of time and that break the madness of the fight

You definitely have to change the standard key for the quick menu. TAB doesn't work well... take any other letter-key from the keyboard, they are much more responsive.

We wouldn't want to complicate things for console gamer now, wouln't we? =)

(just teasing I know it's doable for controller as well, and to be quite frank, I don't now why it hasn't been implemented as well...)

Yes good point, why not have right D-Pad be a quick change sign key and left just as a draw/sheath (given they have nerfed the need to manually select silver/steel swords with the auto draw thing

Personally I think TAB works pretty well. Besides, if you don't like the keybinds just rebind it, it's PC after all.

I don't quite get what you are saying about "TAB not being as responsive as letter keys", what keyboard are you using?

Agreed. Once I highlight the sign I should be able to release, and that sign be selected. I don't understand the need to highlight, click, and release just to select a sign.
It seems like too many unnecessary steps and kind of breaks the fluid of combat.

Also the use of the swipe pad for signs would be a welcomed addition IMO

A standard keyboard... I have no idea why, but when it comes to the quick menu of Witcher 3 TAB doesn't work well for me.

Devs, so based on the feedback here this is a little combat scenario that the players want.

You roll towards your enemy. You hold down the L1 button and brings up the menu, you select sign with the stick and release L1.
As soon as the main character has ended his rolling animation he will stand up and throw the sign.

This will feel so much more in line with the fluid combat you have tried to create.
