What I did not understand from the video - only the lightened areas around Novigrad, No Man's land, etc. are playable or all we see? I guess only the lightened, though it seems pretty big as well

Yes. the highlighted areas are the open world regions you can play within.

I just realised that there is a huge military camp in the southeaster conner. Or at least I think so. Probably Nilfgaardian.

Aye, it is Nilfgaardian(it must be). I'm guessing White Orchard is southeast of that very camp. Guess we'll know in four weeks.

As far as I know you can come back at any time after you finished the prologue to solve some sidequests.

Yes. It was confirmed in the video posted by gamespot today that you can return to the prologue area to complete side quests and such.

Has it been confirmed that once you complete the main story line that the game continues in a "sandbox" mode like, you guessed it, SKYRIM? (5pts)

Wait hold on a minute...I thought there were no loading screens in this game? From the Gamespot screenshots of the map today, the world map acts just like the DA:I War Room with the world map and icon's you click to "fast travel" to that open world map...but you can't seamlessly traverse the combined maps hence the loading screens per region.

Is this what I'm seeing now in witcher 3 or am I looking at this screenshot wrong??

DA: I map comparison:

That was confirmed long, long ago, well before DA: I even had come out. There are two big regions, the No-Man's Land (which also includes Novigrad) and the Skellige Isles, as well as a bunch of smaller ones that can only be reached through fast travel. There are no loading screens inside these areas, but travelling between them is a different story.

So explain to me why this whole PR of "no loading screens" is being emphasized so much by the devs if this has been done plenty of times already in titles released before this one? EX: DAI. When I'm told a "seamless" world with "no loading screens" do you know what I expect? Take a guess...

...no loading screens whatsoever. That's just bad marketing and just false information. It should be stated as "no loading screens WITHIN the regions the player is in."

Very misleading. Do you know why Bioware didn't use the "no loading screen" PR jibberish? Because they can't claim that because there are loading screens between the maps. Why is CDProjekt Red so special they can falsely advertise??

Sigh.

Seems some are a bit unreasonable.. there is no loading screen in the world when you don't fast travel.
Yes, you must use fast travel to go to worlds that have an unreasonable long way to travel to reach.

You can see that on the map, it's not hard to imagine.

They never said "There will be no loading screens whatsoever". Also, NML+Novigrad, and Skellige maps, by themselves, are larger than Skyrim's map. As a person who spent 80-90 hours in DA:I, I can say that those maps don't even start comparing with these ones. DA:I had several big maps. Witcher 3 has two open worlds, and also several big maps. Also, remember when you try to go to the other parts of the castle in DA:I you had loading screens? They don't exist in Witcher 3. You see a door, you enter. That simple. That's what "seamless" is. (There is even no loading screen when you go inside the Sewers of Novigrad; which by itself nearly spans the whole city. No loading when you get inside a house - with more than 100 houses to get inside in just Novigrad. No loading screens when you go inside a dungeon. And so on.)

Normally it would take at least hours to sail to Skellige from Novigrad. They didn't want to squish the two landmasses together so that you'll be able to travel between them in minutes (Remember how you could go to another city in Skyrim in 5 minutes?), so they put a loading screen between two huge maps.

I seriously can't understand how the two games compare in this regard, but that's just me. I'm sorry for the aggressive tone in this message, by the way.

Note: Sorry mods for discussing between DA:I and TW3, but the argument required that.

When I compare the Witcher 3 with my other favorite RPG, well you can say I'm pretty happy with how the Witcher 3 developers decided to cut down on loading screens, you know..

When and where CDPR said that?

I think there were stated to be a few loading screens for a very small number of catacombs... though that was ages ago now. It is only a tiny number of world transitions overall though, even with these.

Compared to W2, which had a loading screen for each hut this is a huge improvement. It also permits the use of "plausible" scaling of the world without breaking the world map... or ending up with an obvious potato land.

Besides what everyone explained already, the statement actually always was "no loading screens in the open world", in the world map are you in the open world? no you're not. The end.

Yeah, that would be a lie. They have never claimed such thing. It's not in CDPR's responsibility if you misinterpret their press statements. What they have actually said is that there are no loading screens when entering into buildings or travelling in the map. They've always been plain and honest about the fact that they've got multiple maps that can only be travelled between by fast travel, and subsequently that there will be loading screens between these trips. It's been out in the open well over a year, maybe two, so I have no clue how you could have missed it for so long.

Your problems with understanding what devs are saying are not really anyone's concerns, but te point is you can ride a horse for an hour, visit any house you see and explore any cave and you'll witness no loading screen. This applies to no man's land + novigrad, as well as to Skellige islands (where you may go with a boat instead of a horse though).
